I bowled a doubles tournament over the weekend. 48 teams, doubles elimination that started on Saturday at 9am and got through at 7am the next day, the format was 3 games matches with total pinfall as the winner.
About 3am, with most teams being out, and the "Bar" closed, some things happend that made me think of how many bowling alleys were in the 50's or 60's.
With the bar closed down, many had brought beer in ice chest and were bringing it the back door. There was a back room were a game of Texas holdem' was being played. There was some pretty big money on the table with a banker with a suitcase. Out on the lanes, there was a pot game between a couple of pretty good players going at it for 100-100-200. With all of the beer flowing and money on the table, something was bound to go wrong.
I was in the back room playing cards when a fight started out on the lanes between one of the bowlers and a drunk guy who was backing the other guy. The banker of the card game closed up the suitcase of money and hit the back door. Within 3 minutes, there were 6 squad cars show up. Nobody went to jail that night but it was pretty crazy.
Isn't this the image we have of a bowling alley in the 50's or 60's?
