What do you use for a spare ball?
« on: May 31, 2005, 12:01:41 AM »
I've recently realized I don't like the "feel" of my present spare ball, a Zone plastic.  This is mostly due to the drilling, I think, and rather than plug and redrill it would almost be just as easy to buy a new one.  So what are some good ones to use?  Maybe something that has just a little hook that I could use for dry conditions as well?

I was thinking of maybe a Power Groove Dry/R?  Could I kill that enough to use it?

Spare Tire By Roto-Grip. Goes straight and very nice-looking. People can't help but ask what the ball is.

Circle Rio spare ball...doesn't quite fit right though, need to look at the pitches.  Over the weekend at Nationals I used my Ebonite Ice exclusively as a spare ball.

Oooh...Ebonite Ice...that sounds like a possibility.  The thing is, I don't have a ton of revs, so I don't need something that COMPLETELY kills itself, ie plastic.

Keep in mind though, I do hit the ball a little bit at the bottom (ok...more than a little bit...) but I just kill all the hook and throw hard and straight at ALL spares.

Well, my spare technique as it stands is to throw hard and straight at almost every spare, excepting the spares that benefit from a little hook, ie just about anything with the head pin or where I have to try and slide one pin into another.

I use a Target Zone. Had an Ebonite Maxim, but the thumb cracked out too much to repair.

Before that, I had a vis-a-ball, but those, and the clear plastic ones, track up way too much for me, and they're fairly expensive to replace.
