WE are having a vote on how much money the Guy running the secretary and treasurer job is going to make. The league doubled and he wants double but they have decided to research it first.
Help me out. what is fair for 32- 5 man teams. trimester format.

The way every league I have ever heard of does it is that they pay X number of dollars per team. I have seen it range from $12 per team all the way up to $35 per team.
The average amounts I usually see are $15-$20 per team. At $15 he would be making $430. That seems like plenty to me. I would use $15 as a starting point. Have the league vote from there. It is very difficult because I do not know what he was making previously.
-
As long as you are RESEARCHING IT .. check the CENTER .. MOST AMF CENTERS do secretarial work for a MINIMAL CHARGE (some places FREE) .. you may even have a BOWLER that has the program available and will do it FREE .. Not a BIG DEAL with the right SOFTWARE!!

we did 17.50 a team which was an increase of .25 cents a team over the previous year. I was not in the league prior to that, but they made it seem as if he probably gets about a quarter more a year per team. I am thinking I will wait about 20 years and then try to wrestle the job away from him. LoL kidding. I don't think I would want to do it.

I don't really play cards and I am not 79, but it fits together somehow.
-
Many of the leagues that I have bowled in pay the secretary and or treasurer on a per bowler basis (10 cents per bowler per night for example). In this scenario or in Excaliber's scenario of paying per team, if the size of the league doubles, the fee paid also doubles.

Ours gets $100 pro-shop credit and $100. He is really good, very detail oriented. He buys a ball every two years and what he doesn't use from the $200 credit he puts back to the league.

I may need more help here.
the house charges for secretary duties but he still has some.
he mostly has treasury duties.
so for a (32) 5 man team how much for being a assistant to the house for secretary duties. and how much for being the treasurer.
right now he is asking for about 1600. is this fair?
I will be printing this out and tacking it to the meeting for reference.
so if know league size and any stats that could help. I'm sure there is going to be a lot of "Discussion"

In our 16 team league the secretary gets $600 and the treasurer gets $225, which is in line with the $1,600 he's seeking for a 32 team league. From what I've seen posted by the others we may be a little high, but ironically, the secretary/treasurer pay is probably the only thing that doesn't spark an argument at our annual meeting.
Keep in mind, 32 teams generates a lot of weekly recap sheets, ABC applications and honor scores to be submitted. And if someone or a group of bowlers are complaining about the expense, nominate them for the position at whatever pay they deem worthy. Then $1,600 should pass with no problem. Good luck.

sorry Joe,
32 teams 5 men a team = 160 bowlers
160 x 35weeks = 5600 possible reconcillations

I would say that you would want to max out somewhere around 25 cents per bowler per week for both secretary and treasurer. The split would be something like 15 cents for secretary and 10 cents for treasurer. That would put you at $1,400 for the year.

I receive $ .35 every week for every bowler whether in they are in attendence or not.
All of the other league secretaries in our house receive $ .50 per bowler. The members of my league are all dual members of the Pchee2 Cheap Bowler Club.

If you had everything
......where would you put it?
-
26 5-man teams
Secretary - $25 per team. $650 total
Treasurer - $20 per team. $520 total
33 week season
Been that way for the past 9 years with no increase.
Like someone else wrote, how much was he making ?

Only thing ours do is turn in honor scores. The house does all the work and the banking.

I must say the replies so far have been interesting. At our league meeting, they tried to increase the secretary/treasurer fees to 0.75 per bowler per night but that was shot down so it remains at 0.60 which for 24 teams comes out to just under $2600 for the season.
Last season it seemed that we were paying about average but so far from these replies we might be high.

One league pays 40 cents per bowler per week. For 35 weeks, that adds up! For 20 4 man teams, that's $1120/year.
The house actually does the league sheets, too...
Hmmmm - sounds high to me.
After figuring out what this one works out to, I'm going to take a look at the other league's secretary fees!
-
Ours gets .50 per bowler per week for 36 weeks.
He does both secretary and treasurer.

Some of the amounts I see are WAY too high for collecting sheets and money, entering scores into a computer, depositing money into the bank.
I think an amount should be decided on to pay the person, and the league should vote an amount set aside for finances every year (paper, and needed supplies). There is just no way someone should get all of that money for doing such simple duties. I respect the person that does it, but there has to be a limit. $43 a team is too much.
-
I get paid 60 cents per bowler, per week. Last year, I had 44 bowlers, and we bowled for 33 weeks, so I made 44x$0.60 = $26.40 per week x 33 weeks = $871.20.
For $26.40 per week, I collect the money, record who owes what, and settle up with the house before I leave the center that night. The next morning, I enter the scores in the computer, print standings sheets and upload them (and other reports) to my web site, where members can log on to view the current week's results and see who they are bowling next week.
Then I make the bank deposit, and prepare the week's funds reconciliation for the league President, accounting for the money received, the lineage paid to the lanes, and the amount of the bank deposit. It also shows how much money each team owes, with starting and ending balances.
Next week, I get to the lanes an hour early to put out the money envelopes, recap sheets and a copy of the standings for each team, and to make sure the lanes have been oiled. Then I go have a beer!
Oh yeah, and each week I write up a little commentary on how everyone did last week, and post it to the web site. I try to make it interesting and informative for everyone. That alone takes a couple of hours.
Every month or so, I write up and mail the award applications. We don't have many hotshot bowlers on this league, so we don't have many honor scores. It's mostly the "60 pins over average game" kinda stuff.
If you guys think $26.40 per week is a lot of money for that, well, you're welcome to it. In my real job, I make that much in about 20 minutes.

I guess I just feel that the sec/treasurer position should have a degree of volunteerism(is that a word?*S*) to doing the job. If someone is in it for the money then should not be doing it.
-
A secretary in one of my leagues gets 90 cents per bowler per week. This comes out to something like $1,500 a season. The bowling center has a full-time employee who inputs all the scores for standings sheets. The secretary's duties include sending in sanction card information, making bank deposits and turning in recap sheets to the desk. (Requesting awards for honor scores would not apply to this league, LOL.) This particular secretary stepped down from her position during one league meeting (she's secretary in at least 3 leagues) when the members voted to reduce her fee to 50 cents.

At about $5 per hour, trust me, I consider this charity work.

The house banks the money and tracks down the bowlers for shortages, so we don't pay treasure duties. The secretaries fees range from $4.00/ bowler to $15/bowler perseason depending on the league. The average is $6.00/bowler. When we had a service do the sheets, we paid $0.25/bowler/week. The house now does the sheets for free.

Our Sec/Tres gets $.40 per bowler. Just remember everything the sec. does.
Besides collecting money, recap sheets, getting all the league complaints,(everyone complains
to the secretary), finding teams to fill leagues, etc. I've had the Sec. job before, ends up being more hours than
you think.
