I want to get a little more lift on my ring finger. Will moving the ring finger forward 1/8 in pitch not distance make any real difference?

Hey Nicanor.

If you're thinking about doing something like that, why not try D-grips or the grips with a bump inside?

Cheaper, faster, and less likely to tear up your fingers.

Should not affect span or anything like comfort. Can make a minimal difference in feel. Might make a big difference in confidence.

I wouldn't think that's a good idea, while it might work, unless you have too much reverse in that finger currently. It might be uncomfortable is all I'm saying.

I have about 1/8" of forward pitch in the fingers, can't remember exactly for each one.

It is not uncomfortable at all, my fingers aren't torn up, and it makes a difference.

When I had 0" pitch the ball would slip off my hand.

If you have a junk ball laying around try it out, worse comes to worse you won't use that ever again.

Thank you all for your response. they all make a lot of sense.

Rockerbowler, I'm drilling a Domination, Rogue and I had to plug and re-drill the ring finger of the Hot Sauce (because it had a chip come out at the 6 o'clock position) so I'm trying the pitch change on these bowling balls I'm drilling. But if I wasn't and if it works, I will convert my ring fingers to the opposite side of the insert that is a lifter. Great advice.

My pitch was at "0" so I'm hoping the 1/8 will work. I'm hoping that the additional pitch will give me more lift in that finger only and give me a touch of a tighter fit for the ball over all.

The reason for my suggestion was that the only thing that I really can't stand is being stuck in the ball with any forward pitch. My fingers are at 0, and I've played with reverse (which I liked, but not as much as 0) and I've got reverse and left in the thumb to get out sooner.

You've seen me bowl, and I'm definitely all for a clean release with a lot of revs, so when I start putting forward pitches in anything, I tear my hand to pieces.

Good luck with whatever you try, though. Either way (lifts or pitch change) you should get a similar result.

On a side note, how did the ball get chipped?

It looked like it might have gotten chipped in the machine somewhere while in Linbrook. It wasn't a ball manufacturing problem, it just hit something somewhere.

I am currently at 0 and 0 on both fingers. While bowling a tournament in Las Vegas a pro shop changed my pitch to 1/4 and 3/8 reverse. It was too much reverse and i went back to 0. I just want to get a little more lift on the ring finger and it should tighten my hand a touch. We'll see when I can get back to bowling. I haven't started to take the Soma yet because I can't drive while taking the Soma and I have a car show to prepare for on 5 April and a motorcycle show on 19 April. So I can't take the time to take the medication.

it may make your span feel slightly longer imo, and i think you will feel the ball on your fingers more or the ball may take longer to get off of your fingers which may feel better to you...

Thank you Strikealot, that is what I'm hoping.

Many years ago I punched someone in the forehead (bad decision) and broke a bone about 1 1/2 inches behind my knuckle in my hand. Putting too much pressure on the ring finger caused a lot of pain for years. So just to test out the ring finger, I want to put more lift/pressure on the ring finger to see if it will hold up to more pressure allowing me to lift with the ring finger more.

Your finger pitch should be based on your flexibility...

If you are flexible enough for 1/8 forward....good. If not, I wouldn't recommend it. Is your finger nail hitting the back of the hole right now?? If so, 1/8 isn't going to help...fwiw.

my perfect rival i got the pitch on my ring finger forward by a little
and it makes my rotation more sideways instead of the forward roll i was getin
and i just love it
takin a little while for my finger to get used to it
but the results are worth it

Barry,

Given the above statement, have you tried tucking your pinky, just the first knuckle, against the ball's surface? That would do exactly what you say.

When I discovered tendonitis in my ring finger, I dropped its span 1/8" to reduce pressure on the 2nd knuckle of ring finger, the one with the tendonitis. To make the span feel right, I tucked only the first knuckle of the pinky and it's helped a lot with "feel", while not putting pressure on the knuckle with the tendonitis.

Try it. It's certainly less expensive and less problematic than redrilling.

No, I don't currently tuck my pinky finger. I've experimented with it a couple of months ago to try and carry the 10 pin and though it felt comfortable, I had a little difficulty hitting my mark. Pulled left a little too much. It did help me get a little more side rotation and with practice I think I could use it.

TO conteract the natural inclination to turn the ball more with atucked pinky, move your index finger slightly closer to the middle finger.

It takes a little while to get comfortable tucking the pinky.

Did it help with revs at all?
