What happened to this site!!

I took a break from bowling for about 5 years due to an accident.  Now that things have healed up somewhat, I decided to drop in here and catch up.

I was really expecting to see some posts on how to correct a bad arm swing, targeting problems, adjustments.  Instead all I find are posts about which ball to get and how to have it drilled.  Has the game gotten that simple now.  Is good sound mechanics  no longer necessary.

And, while I’m on my mini rant, where are all the good posters.  About the only ones I recognize is Sawbones and Bob Hanson.  The majority of the others seem to be just kids.

I think I’ll give it a while before I even bother filling out a new profile.  The site doesn’t seem like its worth visiting now.

BTW ... I'm NOT saying that all of the new youngsters are insincere and dumb !!!

What does my sig matter if I can make good posts? Sheesh. Sorry to hi jack, again I say, not ALL of the adults here would agree that the kids here are not bad.

Welcome back.

I'm definately not one of the kids on here and will vouch for the ones listed above.  There are a few kids posts that aren't worth reading (hint any screen name that ends in 290).  The majority though are pretty decent.

I will have to agree, the posts have definately changed.  Equipment choice seems to be the only adjustment necessary for the youngsters of today.  If they aren't scoring well it has to be the equipment doesn't it?

Now the old adage comes into play.  "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem".

Perhaps if us old timers start showing an interest in mechanics, the kids of today will pick up on how to really bowl irregardless of conditions.

BTW ... I have felt for awhile that "charlest" is one of many "group conscience" that we have in here; I, for one, am thankful for this room and what I have gleaned here from the regulars.

don't post often, I read the boards daily. I have seen the shift from "help with my timing" to "what will be the next fill in the blank release." There are many of us that have been here since those ancient times.

BLow Average - Welcome back. I'll keep my response bowling related to honor your request for no sympathy, but wish you the best. Current league bowling, at least in CT, is all about carry. Everything else is secondary as hitting the pocket is easy. However, consistent good carry is tough and for most bowlers the variables needed to carry like energy retention and entry angle are more easily changed by changing balls than by physical and mental adjustments. That's one big reason you see so much ball talk. This is way too much of a generalization but you get the point. If you averaged 220-230 5 or more years ago I've gotta believe you have good enough mechanics to score in today's bowling "environment" even with the injury described, unless you have other significant physical difficulties too. With the help of a GOOD pro shop guy or bowling friends that have kept up w/ technology you can get some equipment that will allow you to generate enough ball speed and energy retention to score much better. Good luck, keep us updated and maybe we can give you more detailed info.

If I'm not mistaken Dick Ritger's Vol. 1 tape covers 1 step delivery. I believe it's swing the ball until you're comfortabe and deliver it using 1 step. Maybe you can adapt it to no step.
