Anyone know a british coach named Chris Buck.
He has been a coach for the ladies national team,
and i need to get in touch with him.

Chris Buck is the man in charge of the whole of the Team England squad. Your best bet to get in touch with him is to contact the Britsih Tenpin Bowling Association on 0208 4781745, and they will be able to help you get ahold of him.

Great cooperation, guys, and quickly. too.

Wish you folks from your neck of the woods (don't know the proper way to refer to you nowadays: England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Jersey, etc. ) would post more often about your bowling, conditions, balls used, etc. We,here in the US, don't travel the world bowling nearly as much as many of our worldwide bowling cousins seem to do. For many of us in the United States, anyway, going to another state virtually requires a passport.

I've talked to RPM MAX, Billy Nimick fron Northern Ireland (don't want to start any arguements here) a little bit and posted a small tribute to his performance in a tournament the other day. But other than him (his conditions and bowling environments sound very similar to what I see), I'd be curious about what you see in bowling.

No rush, no special messages needed, but when any one of you feel like it, if you could post in a thread some general info, I, for one, would be very curious.

Hi charlest,that is a good point you made,I personally have noticed two things that do seem linked,the first being we don't get so many honour scores over here,however I know that the standard of bowling is excellent in the UK.But one thing stands out and that is that we do not bowl on a THS or wall as you call it,I have bowled in quite a few centres and lanes are always oiled gutter to gutter,we have the usual patterns i.e. top hat,xmas tree but not a blocked pattern.I for one would love to bowl on a wall just to see the difference.

I hear what you're saying.

Well, not all of us over here get to bowl on such prettied-up conditions. For a number of us, the proprietor doesn't care as much or the help is not adequately trained or the oiling machines are not up to par or any of several other reasons.

Heck, I'd like to see one of these walls myself one day.
But the good part is that makes us, you guys and a few of us, here much better when we see really hard conditions. Always a bright side.

Oh, I know a bad part for you folks - ball prices. Wish you could enjoy some of the prices we get here, especially on closeouts and discontinued models.

Nah, I'm talking a wall like you stand 35 and can hit 15 board at the arrows or 5 board at the arrows and using a resin pearl, a solid resin or a particle pearl, they all hit the epocket solid and you STUPIDLY think you're a bowling god! Now that's a wall!!

You are spot on about ball prices charlest,a new top end ball at todays exchange rates would be about $380 drilled with grips and slug ( yes I mean for ONE ball) as for sales etc,things like closeouts etc just don't happen.Just to put it into perspective,it's taken me nearly 2yrs to put together a 6 ball arsenal (profile is out of date).Because of cost we are not able to buy balls to try and then sell if they don't match up we would lose too much money on it.Buying online is cheaper even with shipping costs (surface not air),but our wonderful government sting us big time with import tax etc and the post office add a big handling charge on as well which makes any saving minimal.The only ways around it is if the balls are used or a gift.

There is a bit of a trend of walled up shots becoming popular, but there are still plenty of places which put out really tough shots. At my home centre, we have struggled greatly to find a pattern that promotes higher scores, becuase a lot of centres around us have started putting out cake-walk shots. In the end, we just had to put a healthy lump of dry on the outside, because we get less complaints if people find dry but are scoring than if they find it wet and have to use their brains.

On the international conditions, for the bigger tournaments, it seems to me that you get a less is more reaction. You need to play with restrained pace and rotation, rather than an extreme of either (in general, I should say. Obviously, there are exceptions) in order to be successful in the longer run of a season on the international circuit. As we don't get to see the PBA stars, its very hard to judge how good some of our European stars are in comparison, but players like Tore Torgersen will provide some storming performances on tour once he gets used to the conditions and the format. I have been fortunate enough to see Tore throw coast to coast, straight off the corner, and also stroke the ball like a classic.

I'm curious now as to how many UK bowlers use this site ( I know star is another one)so I'm going to start a post to find out.

BTW stevieT300 do you/did you bowl for dorset in the Inter-Counties?

Ball prices are ridiculous over here as is almost all other equiptment.
You really have to find a great driller who knows his stuff too or buying the wrong ball and thats your lot for a season.
Second hand stuff is real hard to get. My driller knows I'll buy preety much anything decent when its going and that, together with blems, is the only way I can keep up with the competition.
At present in my main bag I have 2 second hand balls and 1 blem.
I do have another new one on order only because I won my local sratch league and thats given me some money free to spend on a ball.
As for balls, we dont really see that much soup so best balls are in the medium to dry class. Occassionally we do see a bit of carrydown and are pushed towards a med/heavy. Its great to see me who doesnt have great hand hooking my Thing Returns across the lane where others are moaning they cant get their Raging Infernos back to the pocket.
You still see a lot of people with the strongest ball that they can get and then wondering why it doesnt work after 4 games on a light oil shot. Nothing much different to the USA.
Thats where getting the right driller comes into the equation. Its even more important than in the USA due to the cost. I myself was so lucky to drop , by accident, onto a young driller who I think in the next few years will be in the top 2-3 in the UK, if he isnt already.
Scores wise. Where Im from 700's are rare with only 1-2 shot each season. The 2 lanes I bowl at have both only had 1 300 shot in each. One of them is 14 years old and the other has been open on and off for about 10 years.
I have seen 1 800 and that was at a special event where one of our top guys shot 804.
There are quite a few places where scoring is much better like in the main town/cities wher bowling has been around a lot longer. Like Nottingham, London and the like. There are some great bowlers in the UK who could hold their own on the Regional side in the USA. Some of the top players went over and bowled in your Nationals last year and finished quite high up. I think they were the RollRite gang from Nottingham. Mario Joseph is their coach and he is one of the best in the UK. You may have seen his site.
I hope that has given you a little bit of info about where I bowl and bowling in the UK. Most of us are just hacks who love the game and we are more than happy just to play the game like most of you.
We still think we can find the secret to bowling great and if we ever get hold of that magic ball you can bet we'll be out on the PBA showing you how it should be done.

My Pro gets mostly blems.
He will sort through them to get you the one for the drill that you need.
I dont know about specials. He gets deals on balls and passes them on but its only about Â£10-Â£15 difference.

Hi ladies and Gents, I bowl in the NW of England and the conditions are all round medium to medium dry with swinging backends. I prefer the down and in shot ( medium speed medium revs) but we have some people who do bowl through 3rd 0r 4th arrow. The outsides are pretty dry and there is some hold through the middle for those shots that are pulled slightly. I bowl 3 leagues 201 ave Tuesday scratch singles, 207 average Monday scratch singles and 203 average in Thursday handicap doubles, we bowl a monthly turn up and bowl tourney once a month, normally 40 - 50 bowlers and the conditions are the same as the leagues (medium to medium dry). I am currently throwing 15lb Roto Grip Oracle box condition, Hammer Big Blue Pearl highly polised with Black magic and have just bought a Hammer Real Deal and had it highly polished with black magic. Have not thrown it yet but tonight is the night someone is gonna get caned. I have had lots of 700's, 3 x 300's and 1 x 800 (804). Dont seem to travel too far for my bowling due to the costs of entries and hotels and petrol, but there are some events we dont miss.

Nice to see some more of the UK bowlers getting on board ballreviews.
