How to target breakpoint ?
« on: January 19, 2004, 02:15:01 PM »
This is something I want to try as Ive been having a little problem with accuracy on my strike ball.
With my spares I target the reflection of the pin, draw it back to the arrows and bowl through that line. I am very accurate with that system and rarely miss. I can even target splits quite accuratly with it.
Now I know all of you say pick a mark on the lane where the ball starts to break into the pocket, but I find that difficult to do as the lighting in or lanes is so strong. It seems to cause a shimmery effect on the lanes.
Can I target say a pin and draw that back as I do for spares or would that cause me to extend too far through the ball ?
Or should I just work at picking my mark on the lane and getting used to the lighting and really give that a prolonged test?
Do any of you have a little secret as to how it clicked for you ?.
I think Im at that stage now where I need to do this and I will work on it with my coach when he has the time again, but Id love a bit of info on how you managed to do it.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi Star,

I draw a line from breakpoint to arrows, if the lighting is bothering you there, I've also brought it all the way back to the dots.  That's my trick..hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks for the info so far all of you.
I can and do alter wrist, hand positions depending on conditions, but at the moment Im just a little erratic on hitting the specific board or arrow that Im targeting. Now as I say when it comes to the spare shot I can practically split boards with it on most occasions.
I do adopt an up the back release with spares so accuracy would improve on that of my strike ball.
However I think I would benifit from trying all the methods mentioned.
Like I say in my profile I like to play the down and in shot and I think its that shot that I would benifit most from and that would be the easiest to start with.
I really would like to use it to "draw the line in my mind" so to speak as I feel that is where Im falling down at the moment.

Instead of standing where you normally stand, stand in the center, and throw down the center. That way its easier to track where you ball is going, and you can also watch wut pins it hits.

And watch the ball go through the beak  How does that help you target your break point??

Well for one, if you throw ANY type of hook at all, it wont go through the nose, and second, instead of tracking your ball up the lane sideways, if its right in the center, its much easier to track it, and watch its break. JMO tho
