To me it would be where you throw one shot for a strike then come back to that lane and throw in the same general area and not get a strike a bucket or a split.A over and under oil pattern.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

T of C shot.  50 feet of basically flat oil.  Miss it just this [ ] much and you're screwed.  We bowled on this pattern during sport league one year.

I thought the TOC was really fun, I hate the short patterns and true dry lanes. In PBA league I did the best on the longer patterns and terrible on Cheetah and Viper.

With today's equipment, anything super-short will kill us.

I would say reverse-block, but you very rarely see anyone lay it down on purpose anymore. What you *do* see is a flat shot where the track area gets burned down and then it looks like a reverse block.

Actually, Cheetah is worse for me than reverse block simply because I used to bowl in a house that would do the flat oil/burned out track thing and I got a lot of practice on it. Next to that is the U.S. Open pattern.

I loved the 50 foot ToC shot.  I stayed in the 180-200 range on it consistently, and in practice fired a 246 or something like that despite having an open.  On fresh oil, I was getting approximately three boards of hook (seriously) even with a pin down Cell at 1000 abralon (eventually took it to 2000 the last night on that shot to avoid having too much early hook), but it was enough to carry!

The Willow Creek shot in Wisconsin.  Every year i torture myself and drive down and bowl in the big Wisconsin tourney.  I shot a 96 last year, and still managed a 500 series

Ditto. Anything with carrydown forcing the shot 'tight', I struggle.

A reverse pattern on old wood lanes with guardian overlay.  Really rough when the middle is dry as a desert and the outside boards are super flooded.

Super long oil.  The kind where you have to point the ball off the corner and put it straight at the pocket, because there is no back end.

I struggle on it, and for the lefties it never breaks down.  After a few games the righties turn it into a modified house shot.

Tough for me though.
