Last month’s BTM had an article on sport shots and drilling ideas for different bowler types.

The mentioned several sport type shots and classified them by length of run and how heavy of oil volume was laid down.

My question is what would you consider the ABC national shot to be?

My guess would be heavy oil with medium length. I can’t find any lane condition charts from previous years.

For those of you who go to ABC nationals on a regular basis what do you think?

I've bowled nationals the last 16 years so I have played the shot many times.

The run was very short and the amount of ML was less than it has been in a long time. I believe 20-25ml. Oil 34ft-buff to 39 or 40. Depending on a ton of variables and what weeks you bowl make a difference in how played it seems. I like many were fooled due to how clean the balls went thru the heads and used too strong of equipment so carry was poor. It gave me the false impression of more oil. For reference I believe Billings was 39-40ML of oil and I'm pretty sure it was 37' to 39-40 ft

I know the loading of oil was less because we had to modify the oil machine at our house to put down such a low ml amount. It was definitely shorter on the pattern but thought the buff area kept it relatively close as total length was concerned. I have them all but just can't find them yet. We made copies and the local proprietor has them but if Bob or Tex is around they probably will know for sure.
