Practicing Properly when alone
« on: February 23, 2007, 04:14:16 AM »
So, at my new job there's a good alley about five minutes away.  Once or twice a week I go on my lunch break to throw.  My problem is I just try to bowl too dang fast.  I think it's partially because I'm feeling the time crunch.  How would you work a ~1 hr practice session?

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

Maybe work on your 7 and 10 pin spare game.  Go for a low score.  Also, 1 frame, you could throw at the 10 pin, then go for the spare.  Next frame, go for the 7 pin, then go for the spare.

If it's not 10 frames, then I'll be doing 18 holes

Yeah even though it is only an hour any practice is going to really help.  I wish I had that situation here...  I would so be there every day.

I'm like you.  Back when I used to practice my biggest problem was pacing.  When you bowl alone you tend to bowl too fast.  What I did was get a coke or glass of water.  After every frame stop, take a sip, take a breath then bowl again.  It was easier when you had to keep manual score - you  might try turning off the scoring and do it by hand to slow the pace.  A side advantage of the coke thing is that every now and again you have to stop and go to the bathroom, which slows things even more,  lol
