At our league payout, I was shocked to find out that our wonderful USBC is no longer recognizing league high averages.  What kind of BS is this?  It's the only award that is better than league high series.  If it's one thing I strive for every season, it's to have the league high average.  In my eyes, it's the one award that implies consistency, and it's not longer recognized?  Does anyone know why they no longer give this award?

You say I only score because I'm a lefty... you whine about the crappy shot... the same crappy shot I average higher than you on?  There are bowlers, people who try to bowl.  The bowlers find a way to score no matter the condition, and the people who try to bowl whine about the shot.

I don't care about the patch, but it is something to go with the rest of my framed high average awards from over the years.  When I asked my league secretary about it he said that USBC isn't giving the award anymore!  He said this year was the last year for the most improved average award as well. The sport is going in the wrong direction.  You get more recognition for a 300 or 800 and are not recognized as a good bowler if you don't shoot those scores.  No recognition for the guy who consistently bowls well, shoots 99% spares, and shoots consistent scores.  Where I bowl, most of the hacks don't even recognize me as a good bowler cause I don't crank out 300's and 800's, yet I average 20 pins higher than anyone in the house, and probably the whole city.  So it's not like anyone in my local association cares.  It's like saying that batting average means nothing in baseball.  They can shove their new facility if it means that they are going to take away the MEANINGFUL awards.

IowaMoe300,
Starting next season,USBC also will only give out a lifetime award for honor scores.Instead of getting the free 300 ring, you only get it once in your lifetime now.

Maybe next year, we should pool all of our sanction monies and set up our own "reward" system. I am my league's secretary, and all I turned in this past season were trinket awards for low average bowlers. Hardly worth $16.50-$18 in respective womens and mens dues. I have 60 people in this league. My thousand bucks would make a pretty nice chunk of coin for the top 3 male and female average/series/game. I just got my 299 placque in the mail yesterday. A far cry from the ring or watch I would have got last year. I'm with Moe on the high average thing. Busted my butt for 34 weeks and finished with my highest sanctioned average EVER. I got nothing. Used to get a patch and a certificate
from the local association. Where's all this money going? They've cheapened every award they could and eliminated or made "one and done" the rest. Kind of hard to argue for sanctioning your league when a bowler asks you what is in it for them. Here's your patch(made in China).

That is exactly what I'm getting at.  Maybe USBC is a bunch of bleeding heart libs, and they don't want to demean the folks who dont average high enough for this award?  I have worked hard to get to the skill level I am at, and all that it seems to get me is less recognition, and more handicap for the guy who doesn't want to get better.

nd300,
The USBC suspended the previously mentioned "once-in-a-lifetime" awards for next season pending a further review of the process.  Everything for the 2008-2009 season will be the same as it was for this season.  This was reported about a month or so ago...

The once in a lifetime honor awards and special achievement awards were suspended for two more years.  Apparently they did get an ear full, or an email box full about this idea.  I understand at our state convention last week that most of the discussion with the USBC representative was over their diminishing the awards program.  My guess is that this week, the awards program will again have a lot of discussion.

I hear you on this one.  I was most improved on a pretty competitive men's league at the local center, going +17.47 pins for the year. (beginning of the year, was coming back from an injury that took me out again mid-season, plus I was just bowling really bad.  At the halfway point, I was at 199, ended the season at over 211.)  Didn't get anything for it...
