What is going to take for you to be a better bowler?
« on: May 16, 2012, 04:35:24 PM »
We are reaching summer time. The long winter leagues are done. Most bowlers have placed the bowling equipment on the shelf for the year, but some of us still bowl during the summer months. Do any of you plan to improve on something? If so...what do you think its going to take for you to get to that next level? What ever it maybe?

- the next level could be to average over 200, get a 300 game, throw a 600, 700, or 800 series, how about better spare shooting, or a more consistent release, more revs/less revs, anything? .....

Working on softening my speed a touch more would give me more options (throwing 19-22 now).  My goal is 18 mph as my slowest speed.  I used to be able to throw as fast as 24-25 mph with my fastest ever at 27.7 mph throwing at a solid 10 pin for a spare.   That's why I went up to 16 along with shortening my 5 step approach.

Since that time about 2 years ago, summer practicing at the house has helped me come a long way.  But, I still have room to improve further and that is the plan this summer.

Practice....    I have almost given up on practicing.  Last week I decided to throw a game.  I had not bowled in three weeks.  Stretched out and no warm ups shoot 249.   Put the ball back in the bag and walked away.  I will need to force myself to bowl and practice regardless of the condition.

A different way of restating the tired, beat up sports shot thread. I'll give it an A for effort!!

im still trying to improve  but i need to put time to practice during the week. I've gone from 9 steps to 4 steps yes folks 9 steps. been doing 4 steps now for almost a year and half now. but still have some faults but i'm getting there. i currently bowling in a 3 man team league right now. this past tuesday was only our 3rd week currently averaging 223. first night shot 648 second week 713 then tuesday 651. but i hope i'll keep this up putting some practice time. the 651 was a fluke. didn't practice in 4 days. just got lucky. but i'm planning to practice through out the summer and get ready for winter. my goal is to average 200.

Yup hahaha that's how I started but hey it worked for me but took me long enough to find someone to really help me in my game. I still have some flaws like drifting and going around my body. I've lost alot of weight about 100lbs. And it's hard to take off bad habits like going around my body and drifting. But I'm working on it.

For me, my mental game.  Intense focus on repeating shots and not even looking at the scoreboard / brackets / jackpot / insert whatever here.  Part of focus also is to stay on top of transition.  So my solution is PBAX and brutal conditions that force that focus to happen, if I can carry that over to tournaments it will be nothing but helpful.  Sometimes it's hard mentally to blast an 8 pin (i'm a righty) or wrap a 10 on a pristine shot (VERY frustrating) but it it the mark of a true bowler to be able to spare that up, and move on....

I truly feel I can average at least 205 on PBA / sport conditions and 230+ on a THS, I just have to go get it.  And that is my plan.

I am bowling over the summer. i am going to focus on slowing down, i have a tendency to throw too fast, so obviously the ball will not come back. i need to let the ball do the work and roll not muscle.

Bowling sport this summer and a scratch league with better bowlers. I get lazy with my physical game bowling all winter in the handicap league.

And practice....

I am trying to stay focussed and keep my tempo. I have a tendacy to start rushing as the game goes on, especially if I am stringing the strikes together.

I am also working with my son. He is getting better. We have a lot of fun bowling together.

I'm looking to get back into the sport in general, then I'll worry about improving...can't bowl where I'm at right now. Lol
