To me an over/under is when you miss wide and the ball will hook too much and go either thru the nose or Brooklyn (that’s the over) and if you miss inside your mark the ball will skid to far and not hook enough leaving buckets and washouts (the under).

Occurs when the lanes are over blocked. Say 100 units at the 10 board and 3 units at the 7 board. Hit 10 and the ball won’t ripple hit 7 and it will hook out of the house.

Different styles will have more trouble with over/under than others and it depends on how much oil is present both on the inside and on the outside.

How does one avoid trouble in over/under conditions, aside from throwing a perfect ball every time?

How to handle it somewhat depends on your capabilities and what you are comfortable with.

I tend to pick my poison. I will either move deeper in the oil and sling it to the dry knowing that if I pull it much disaster lurks or you can play in the oil pulling the ball up to the pocket where disaster lurks with a push (and sometimes an 8 -10 with a pull).

Some like to use equipment. You can get a ball with some surface that will roll early. If you pull it will still skid in the oil but in the dry it will hook up early and burn up energy so it will no snap so hard in the back end. Also by hooking early it will sometimes get into the oil quick enough to hold it back.

Or you could go with urethane or a real tame resin that doesn’t react as hard to the dry.

So this is what I'm experiencing when, on what I thought were good shots, one hit the 3-6 and the other crossed over.  And, apparently, I accidentally stumbled on a solution by going to my Burgundy Hammer for a few frames because I was confused.  Once I got comfortable again, I went back to my Sonic X and rolled off a couple nice games, for me anyway......

with the case being a heavy blocked lane. they way to be successful is go up the oil line. if you swing it you are crossing more oil and your exist points to the dry will never be quite the same. exist early and go Brooklyn, exit late and wash out.

speed control and take your hand out of the ball will give you less jumpy results.

equipment wise I prefer a particles. either low load or med load polished.

if I go with a resin it has to be dull and be drilled  5 x 3 so it doesn't turn over hard off the dry.

since learning to play that lane condition, I have had a lot more fun scoring that trying to swing 20 out 5 and never know if it is going to react the same.
