What you've described is a cheap but very basic cleaner.....

For deeper cleaning, there are superior products. Hook-It works very well. It's my primary cleaner right after I finish bowling. Motiv Scuff, when used for oil extraction, doesn't get enough press. Let the paste dry on the ball for an hour, or until it turns to powder, and you'll have one very clean cover.

Cheap, basic, and all that is needed as it is very efficient.  Use it all the time.  People at the lanes ask me what it is, I tell them.  I then tell them to bring their ball over and I use it clean their ball.  Gets all scuff marks and belt marks with no problem.  Smile on their face as they run their hands over the ball and get that fresh out of the box squeak tells me I have another convert.  Think you need anything more, you're just deluding yourself into paying more money for a bottle of what is essentially the same thing as you have fallen victim to a marketing department.

In this I agree with Sunshine. You do not need to pay the ungodly costs of "ball cleaner" to get the ball clean other products that cost less work just as well.

33% of each.  I use Simple Green Concentrate so a little goes a long way.  I also use 91% isopropyl alcocol.

Sunshine my friend, believe what you want. The fact is, there are a small group of bowling specific cleaners (Hook-It being one), that are stronger and more effective than the stuff you wipe down your kitchen counter with.

Some of us are psychotic about understanding this crap. I know it's a weird obsession experimenting with all the different choices, but that's what makes the world go round. Over time, I've extensively used Simple Green (as well as Formula 409), straight and diluted with various parts of water/alcohol. I've tried at least one full bottle of most of the commercial cleaners to evaluate ease of use and visual effectiveness. I've tested just about every combination (including SG/F409) directly against each other determine toe-to-toe ranking. People shake their heads at the alley when they see me doing all this stuff between games and after bowling.

I'm as cheap as the next guy and would continue using SG/F409 if they did the best job. But they don't. They're OK, but I want more than just OK. To each his own on this.

+1 ... I totally agree 100%.  Like Steven, I have done my own testing also (lots of testing) and found the end results the exact same as Steven did.

It's all good.  Use whatever you think works best.  It all comes down to one's perception and sense of value at the end of the day.

jls, Motiv Scuff is the best find I've run across in a while. That stuff sucks oil from the cover better than any product I've personally used. I haven't needed to use the Rejuvinator or hot water baths since using Scuff as a deeper oil extraction method.

Motiv Scuff .... Does it dull the ball or change the surface of ball?
