urethane thunderflash.I just picked up a black Hammer urethane and will start testing it shortly.I've never had much luck with weak reactives or plastic.I did have luck with weak reactives on high friction wood lanes with some head oil and plastic on the very very dry lanes.

The harder I try the harder they fall

Columbia300 Scout. About the only time I use mine is if I'm bowling on a short oil pattern for tournaments or open bowling when the lanes haven't been oiled for a couple of days (usually on the weekends). Either way it hardly gets used.

Without having thrown the Razyr, hands down, no doubt about it, LaneMasters Hornet. As much length as a Tropical Storm, but smoother breakpoint, not nearly the flip you see with a lot of "dry lane" balls. Second best might have to be the Brunswick Power Groove. Good luck.
-
I use my most reliable Columbia Scout Hi-Flare...it is one pound lighter than the rest of my equipment and for me it is absolute money on a fried out condition...

I still use my InSite Second Coming (highly polished pearl) for dry lanes, but as Bob Hanson indicated above, I do not run into dry lanes much anymore.

i pop my spare ball very fast down second arrow
btw, my spare ball is a DT: vendetta maxx
--------------------
When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment
When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.
-
I still carry around an old Storm Lightning Flash as a "just in case" ball. I will admit that I've been thinking about drilling up an old NIB Too Hot that I have...but that Razyr seems like a winner from what I've seen of it.

Is the question actually
quote:
What is the best DRY LANE ball that you use?
or did you want to know what to buy for yourself from what is currently available?
I use an old Visionary Amulet so that might not be available for you to find except used. And as others have indicated previously, based on their choices, what can be used on dry depends on the definition of dry and the skill/style/release/ball speed of the individual bowlers.

Slate Blue Gargoyle or Power Groove Dry/R. Both will get the job done. -- JohnP
-
If you can find an ebonite turbo urethane, or an original ebonite blue nitro urethane, those are pretty good choices.

If your going to bowl...bowl for fun or go home

Just looking to see what people use... right now im considering the 900 global link, avalanche pearl, and emerald vibe (green)

Track Black Magic great ball.
-
Slate Blue Gargoyle, period.
I tried a lot of things for dry lanes, and this one has been among 5 balls by far the best when the lanes are toast. I just hope that Visionyr revives the urethane pearl idea, e .g. with an Ogre core, because this ball design is very effective on dry to medium-dry conditions..

I have three bowling balls for Dry conditions.
Scout Hi-flare Urethane (2000 Grit Polish)
Scout Urethane (No Core - Polished)
Lane#1 XXXL (When the lanes are completely fried this is the ball I go to)
Just to add to this. I don't know how some can throw any reactive ball on dry. If you put any kind of rotation on a reactive ball as soon as that ball hits the lane its going to grab.
Maybe the word "Dry" is different to others.

For dry, gotta go with.....
LaneMasters Hornet..dry, spotty, 2nd or 3rd shift, broken down shot
RotoGrip Sonic X....dry, and absolute toast
Columbia Scout......dry, but relatively spotty
Visionary slate blue gargoyle....dry, but you just can't figure out which of the three conditions above, it is you're playing on!

once again, my vote goes to the Slate Blue Gargoyle. absolute money on extreme dry boards, or just burned up lanes. easy, easy length and ZERO overreaction. and did i mention the HIT? it's a complete tank.

I throw a Scout...punched it up with a Rico, so I dont have over/under ever either.
As for what other people are saying though, I am a HUGE fan of Hammer, I havent thrown a Hammer I disliked. so if you have the choice go with the Rayzr.
All of you saying you are going to get an Emerald Vibe for light, good luck keeping it on the right side of the head pin. It has the Toxic's cover, and is more aggressive than the Cherry Vibe (which I had a very mild drill on, almost pin in track and couldnt use on dry)

Silver Streak with lots of polish and a broken wrist. Or Lane masters Straight Flush.
-
My emerald tends to be too much at times so when it is too much I use my white dot, other wise its just adjust my hand position and such to get the emerald vibe to work.
-
Tried it all. I carry around the following when anticipating dry lanes:
Lane # 1 - XXXL
Visionary Slate Blue Gargoyle
Roto Grip - Sonic X Solid
Hammer Pure
Brunswick Avalanche Solid (Pin Axis)
-
my dry ball of choice is a morich labrithyn!!!!!
