What is the best low end ball on the market right now?
« on: December 06, 2009, 07:02:26 AM »
Not counting the urethanes, what is the best ball in the low end right now?

I like the low end stuff, because I don't have enough speed for the stronger surfaces - they roll out at 40 feet. I've been thinking of getting a new ball, but I don't have any idea what to get.

Right now in the bag I have a Tropical Storm and an Ebonite Clash.

What else would anyone recommend? And why?

mumzie...

I am not a one brand bowler. I try to purchase equipment that will help my game and not the newest and biggest hooking thing out. There are many good low end, bowling balls out there right now. Due to my slower ball speed (14 MPH) and not a lot of hand, I like the equipment that will give me a smooth roll and hook. The Storm Furious (solid) is priced right. I saw one last week on the Pro Shop for $115 plus drill. The so called experts like to say "It is a lot of bang for the buck" and I have to agree with that phrase. My wife has even slower ball speed and her Furious is smooth and nice pop at the end. This ball will not roll out for her on a short oil pattern. She has experienced roll out with other brands of equipment.

Is this just because it has such a strong reaction for such a cheap price??

A strong reaction does not necessarily make for a great ball. It is certainly a great value for many people focusing on price.

I'd have to say that the Vibes and the Avalanches are the best overall values in the low end price segment of the bowling ball market place.

That is based on the wide variety of USEFUL, full range ball reactions within the same family, for the same price.

I'd suggest that the best single ball, capable of the most varied ball reactions with changes in drilling and surface, is a tie between the Blue Vibe and the Avalanche Lime/Green.

Yes, the Blue Vibe is still available!! It is very reminiscent of the Messenger Ti in its utility.

The boom or the smash. If you want something that is a little smoother off the dry then the boom is what you want.  I have seen a lot of balls like the freeze, fast, vibe's, etc. seem to be really more hook then advertised. I am definately not saying these are bad balls by any means they just hook a little more then what I think you might like.

As others have said, the Freeze is a great ball for the money. I am concerned that it may be more ball than you are looking for. It is VERY strong! I think a better choice would be a Green/Black Avalanche Pearl or a Lane 1 Gemstone. I have all three and the Avalanche Pearl or the Gemstone are better for speed challenged bowlers, like myself. I have tried many surfaces on my Freeze, and I can rarely use it. It is that strong! Don't let the weak core numbers fool you, the coverstock overpowers the core. Also, the AMF Smoke is a good ball for the money and gets down the lane well, but has a pretty good pop on the back.

from a sales opinion the most common lower price ball is the vibes, avlanches, and freeze is creaping up there too but my opinon personally is the link and the smokes ive drilled a couple up and am amazed how good they handle surface changes.

The green/black Avalanche pearl. Exceptional carry from a tame core with a PK18 pearl cover.

Both the Global 900 Link and the C300 Freeze are great bang for the buck balls, also look at the Roto Grip Planet Series, there also great bang for the buck.

Hmm... I would suggest that you take a look at the Roto Grip Mars and Pluto. They are a couple of really great balls and they are nice and cheap. Roto is one of the cheapest companies out there right now but you are not going to sacrifice quality or service to get that discount.
