Is it time to reduce the number of events on the PBA Tour?
« on: April 07, 2008, 05:41:01 AM »
Since money is the issue. If most of these guys can't make a living at this then its time to step back and let them have jobs. They can go to tournaments that are strategically placed through out the year. Instead of every week.

Would it be in the best interest of the PBA to cut down. Maybe there should be one event for every oil pattern out there (That would be 11 events. 12 if you count the Dydo Cup in Japan).

Up the entry fees for each event.

Open the regular tournaments up to more bowlers (No Exemption).

Points achieved are only used in majors. The bowlers with highest points in
previous year are guaranteed spots in major events.

Maybe there needs to be more international stops other than Japan.

I am thinking create less events but increase the prize fund. Make it worth while for the bowlers to go and win some money, instead of having all these events and watering down the prize money.

Just an idea.

If "all" bowlers can compete is it really a "professional" bowlers tour?

Shouldn't you have to prove that you belong on that stage?

Which is what the PTQ is all about, IMO.  A guy ca go ahead and pay his $200 entry fee and compete in the PTQ; he just shouldn't complain when he gets his lunch eaten.

Still, there's no reason to reduce the number of events on tour.  If a company is willing to host them, then they should go off.  I wish we could get some of the big boys back in sponsorship - companies that have vested interest in bowling.

Beer companies come to mind.  *runs and hides*

Many forget that for most of the PBA’s history in order to bowl a national event you had to be a PBA member AND either cashed in 2 or won a regional event.

In order to join the PBA you had to meet the average requirement at that the time and be recommended by a current member. Then you had to go to an orientation school.

Only when the PBA started going bankrupt did they start opening up the fields to anyone who would show up and pay the money.
