What is the most optimum track position?
« on: December 31, 2003, 03:40:21 AM »
I have a fairly high track, but not over any holes. I asked Dave Husted about it a while ago, and he said "no one ever got into trouble with a track located there".

I keep reading about low trackers, high trackers, and the like on this board, and now I'm confused about what is optimum.

Explain, please?

I would think a moderately high ¾  roller track would be best. This track gives the most versatility as far as being able to get the ball down the lane and gaining enough axis tilt and rotation to promote good carry.

Spinner’s or low trackers can have trouble when the lanes are flooded and can’t get the ball into a  roll.

Extremely high trackers or full rollers can have trouble when the heads go and can’t get the ball to the break point. And full roller’s in particular don’t carry as well.

If you track high like me, I usually throw way off to the right, down and in, works well, just make your own adjustments.

it's not so much the optimum TRack but the the optimum drilling patterns.

at a recent demo day the ebonite ball rep told me were my sweet spot is for pin placements. now through much trial and error I was close to this anyway.

my track is inverted. was normally 1/4" from fingers and 1/2" from thumb and some high flair balls would roll over the fingers. now with the pin location in the optimum position my track is now 1/4" from the fingers but 1" from the thumb.

This has allowed me to get the ball a little further down lane and setup better. so how low of a 3/4 track is right? depends on a lot of factors: revs, speed, rotation, tilt.

I read a article in BTM that my track is a good track to have these days. I have always tracked like this. now that symmetrical ball are layed out for me I'm a little scared of strong aysemrtical balls because My sweet spot may be in a different place with them. the are expensive balls to play around with. Maybe some day Mo or Del will be able to help me setup with the Track (Morpheus core)line Like Bill Calhoun did with ebonite symmetrical balls.

My pap was like 5-1/2 over 1/4 or so down.

He placed the pin in the ring. he did not explain the details but when someone of his knowledge tells me something I just do it.

He place the pin in the ring and told me just to kick the cg out and if I need a hole place it 1" below pap on the val.

my drillings were all within the ring finger zone anyway. 1/4" right, above or below. but it just seams my track has migrated just enough to be more effective.

{edit} I also can read when my ball turns the corner better as the lower track all ow for a little more dramatic motion when the core stands up.

it's worth a try.
