Title: What is wrong with me
Post by: stormerjip on August 26, 2003, 09:22:11 PM
I admit in the last couple years i have had some problems getting my game back to normal after changing style because of torn rotator cuff.  but i was still averaging around 190, but this year i am bowling less leagues to try to add practice and some other things and i am putting 2 games that is more my potential and one that i should be shot for shooting. last weds practice throw 4 balls slam the pocket in practice so then game start shoot 145 then go 200 and 215  for a 560=186 avg  thursday differnt house 2 strikes and a 9 in practice  start then go 150, 197, 200 547=182  friday  looked awful in practice start with 171, 230, 241 642= 214 avg  then monday go 127, 205, 210 542=180  i need help on what i can be doing cause it doesn't feel like i am doing anything different and i am killing them in practice.

actually i know the 127 game on monday that was because a few of the teams walked because we raised the league cost to a whole 9 dollars so we were upset at them but i haven'
t had this problem till this year even when i was averaging bad i was consistant.

Well for me anyway a lot of times when that first game starts.  I am pumped up and speed control becomes a real issue.  I will be generating way too much speed.  Then I realize it and get to slow.  Once I clear my mind calm down it comes right back.

I don't really play cards and I am not 79, but it fits together somehow.

up-ed to 9 dollars and they walked??  That's funny.  I paid 15 dollars in my summer league and I am paying 12 for my winter.  Is 9 dollars really that much?

9 dollars a week, and they're upset? Please! I'm paying $27 in one league alone. Where is this league located?

Now that it's happened a few times in the first game, you may be getting a mental block on that first game.  Kinda like when you miss the 10 pin so many times, your first reaction when leaving another one is "great, here's another open".  Next league, clear your mind, don't think or worry about it, and just TTFB.  Hit your marks, follow through, cover any spares, and you should be on your way.  Good luck!

If it makes you feel any better, last night I went 194-201 then had 5 splits in the third game for a wonderful 158.

I would be curious to find out why you are only throwing 2 or 3 shots in practice? UNLESS you see that you have the line and you just throw those shots and figure you have it down......

If that is the case then I would take all of the practice shots I could just to make sure I am loose.

Another reason could simply be that you are not aware of the lane changes quickly enough.

I arrive at 5:30 most of the time nd we start at 6:30 or 7.  we only have time really for 2-4 pracice shots in our ten minutes i am the only one that doesn't take 2 balls each fram in practice cause most of the time i have a great line and usually strike in practice if not i will throw more but the first game there isn't changing the first game cause i use the same shot all night but just flat no matter what i do i can not hit the mark i am aiming at the first game to save my life.

There is the possibility of an issue with speed control.  The best bet is to bowl a game before your league starts.  That way your speed is in control.

When you're in the practice shots, your body is trying to warm up a bit, so your speeds are generally a tad slower.  Once you're warm, the speed is higher, causing problems.

I don't have time to practice before league, so I often suffer from the same problem.
This varies from week to week however, and some weeks its not even an issue.

You know what was the best advice I've gotten so far, STOP THINKING!  Just bowl and make the adjustments.  If your game is good as you feel, then your thinking way beyon what you are suppost to be doing.

Bowling is just a game.........right?

I own the center that the team walked out on Monday.  This was a $hitty deal.  There was one association board member who has it in for me because he thinks I bought the place out from under him a year ago.  I feel he was looking for an excuse to quit.  One of the new teams has a good bowler from about 30 miles away that I hear the board member has been running his mouth about.  I think that guy was looking foward to beating him in his "home" center to shut him up.  Anyway, he started balking at the price increase.  I raised bowiling 25 cents per game because I put in automatic scoring and several more updates/remodeling.  He knows that the league, not the center sets the price.  The league discussed how much to raise; either 75 cents to cover my increase or a full dollar, to make keep things simple.  They voted TWICE to go with $9.00.  Last year I put a new coat of finish on the lanes and took away the bumper-bowl shot on his side (he is a lefty).  He CAN'T ADJUST.  The association PRESIDENT also walked, balking at the price.  Fine examples of officers, huh?  Anyway, stormerjip had also just been elected president of the league and when they walked out (they were, or maybe one of them still is, his friends) I'm sure his mind was on losing the league, not just a team.  I am VERY IMPRESSED with his enthusiasm about keeping the league together and we are going to add more teams!!  As soon as the guy who is the board member left, everyone was thinking of people who would bowl now that he is gone.  Had I known this, I might have gotten rid of him last year before he came in and almost destroyed our association.  Anyone wanting to bowl with us for $9 bucks a night, we are in Albion IL, out in the middle of cornfields!!  We even occasionally have games in the parking lot and are open to challenges!!!
As for your first game gitters, maybe come in and throw a whole game of practice before league.  Maybe find one of the girls that dances around a brass pole..........

Hilarious Toon:  A whole $9.  My question is how you are able to stay in business.  At the most, you are probably only getting $6.75 out of the $9.  With only 12 lanes generating income, things have to be real tight.  Now you know why I hate [deleted] lefties.

Glad to see you are still able to make some improvements though, hope to get back over there again one of these days.

Jeremy, I'll get to see you this weekend, might be able to give some pointers.

SrKegler, you are right, things are kind of tight, but we are managing.  Thats why I swap used balls on here so much!  Hope you can get over here again, the place sure looks diffrent!!  I agree about some lefties, especially this one.  He used to complain CONSTANTLY about the lane condition.  Then, in the city tourney last year, he bowls on a team that had 2 other lefties.  He came in the pro shop crying about how much the lanes changed because of the other lefties and all I could muster without busting into anuncontrolable laugh is "welcome to what the right handers deal with every night"!!!!!
