Below are posts ranging from very little traffic to a lot of traffic.  If you notice, the good bowling topics receive very little traffic.  The stupid reoccuring brainless ones receive more.  And the one that instigates insightful, colorful, emotional, informative debates gets the most traffic yet is the one that is locked.  So, what does this say about the site?   What does this say about the types of posts that bring traffic to this site?  Check it out below.

A very informative post with very few hits and replies

http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=26572&ForumID=16&CategoryID=5

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

A good post with a lot of potential debate, but again it lacks traffic

http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=26558&ForumID=16&CategoryID=5

----------------------------------------------------------------------

A very sincere post written to help bowling youth through a charity, and again it lacks traffic

http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=26538&ForumID=16&CategoryID=5

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 stupid (not directed toward the posters) reoccuring brainless posts getting  many views and much more traffic than the above posts

http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=26580&ForumID=16&CategoryID=5

http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?TopicID=26397&ForumID=16&CategoryID=5

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A 3300 + post with tremendous amount of traffic and good emotional colorful debate with great opinions from many users who offer feed back to Roto and this feedback leads Roto to redesign their specifications.  Yet if you notice the post is locked by the site administrator.

Answer: Less people know the answer, or have the technical knowledge to answer the more complicated questions. In contrast, everyone knows the name of their favourite ball, and everyone can have something to say on the more 'social' or 'less brain straining' topics.

Possibly this is because the majority of bowlers dotn take the sport serious enough to learn what would happen to their ball if they kicked their cg out 2 inches, or if they bought a ball with a high rg instead of a low rg. Its a shame cause alot of good topics go to waste. Because some of the posters that post on the more technical questions only come one once every few days, the good topics are way down the list where they dont look, and dont get replied to.

good luck and high scoring

Debates are good. When people bashing each other is when topics will be locked.

I am more concerned about how people see this site than the traffic it generates.

I just go where I know the useful info will be.
I'll luck up someone like LuckyLefty, and go from there.
Him and several others on this site are the gurus that I bow
down to and absorb everything that they say

So what we want is a site without personality or difference of opinions?  Its the personalities that make this site spark.  I agree the old anything goes site was too much, and name calling shouldn't be allowed, but the RG post should not have been locked IMHO.  The post that Scott is talking about was early on in the overall post and the responses did not continue implied personal attacks as seen by Roger.  Most was in fun.  But the subject was good and 3300 readers says volumes about interest.  The RG post was good because it really started a debate about ball charts.  I think the Sonic X is a piece of junk.  Why? Because it is tounted as a dry lane ball and by RG standards it probably is a dry lane ball s compared to the rest of their equipment, but it in no way with any bowler a dry lane ball IMHO.  Thats why I think its a piece of junk.  I paid my hard earned money for a dry lane ball and I got a ball that might work well on light/medium oil and I'm no cranker.

But thats my opinion.  Maybe we can lock this topic too.

I dont reply to the more technically inclined posts because I am not that knowledgeable on ball layouts or lane conditions.  But that doesnt mean that I wont or dont read most of them.  If they start to get too technical, then if I cant keep up, I just move on to another subject.  I am trying to pick up what I can and I thank all of you who do post for providing some interesting information.

Everyone will reply to the ones that they can, meaning those about their favorite balls or where they are from, latest personal high scores, etc.  So you will see me post on these.

As far as that RotoGrip post that was locked, I was reading that on occasion, not because I am drawn to arguments, but because there was some good info being passed on, even if I am not a high rev player.  Any time that you can get a company rep replying, there is bound to be something worthwhile reading about even if it is not a ball company that I am currently using/trying.  I may in the future try a RG ball, so reading up on the company is good.  I could not see why it was locked.  Sure, it got a bit heated for a while, but then it looked like it cooled down and everyone was getting along.

Ok, this is the most ludicrous, absurd, ridiculous, foolish (help me out here Ragnar I don't have a thesaurus handy) statement I've seen in a LONG time.  So what do you think got you your sponsors?  A site without traffic will get you NOTHING.  If there is no traffic there is nothing to see.  Its about generating traffic.......good traffic......and that post has done so.  Its the most constructive post in Roto's history, not because of me, but because of the other users who posted and spoke their opinion, which ultimately lead roto to start reworking their charts.  If Roto is the first company to come out with a comprehensive chart what will that say about them?  IF they got that idea from BR well then????

Roger complains of the manner how I did this.  What a cry baby.  So would you complain if someone gave you a million dollars in dollar bills as opposed to a check?  I never saw that post as bashing and most of you know that I wasn't bashing because you know what it looks like when I do.  It was never personal to me either.  Roger is just not smart enough for me to debate with and not smart enough for me to start taking things personal.  That post was meant for other users who had experience with Roto equipment, Roger was not even a part of the equation.

My problem is being able to see miles ahead, I used to think that it was a blessing, however, I am quickly reminded by my friends, families, coworkers and BR users like Sawbones that it can also be detrimental because others don't understand the big picture, and I instinctively expect them to.  Bones said that I should pretend that everyone I talk to here is stupid and I'll be much happier.  I guess the old man is right, with the exception of a few users and you know who you are.

I somewhat agree here.  Yes debates are great and, if you notice, Sawbones puts out the most debatable topics yet they do not generate the hits they deserve.  Yet the roto post brings out emotions and true feelings, its these people that will generate true feelings and be very constructive.  What's a debate without any emotion?  Its NOTHING!  Can you imagine Bill O'Reily being the monotone non-confrontational robotical BR user that Scott calls for?  His show would quickly be pulled.

Last and certainly not least, I know this is Scott's site and he can do whatever (jeffrevs) he wants so I don't need a reminder from him or anyone else.  He somehow forgets about the users that got him here and he forgets he was a participant of how things were and a rule breaker himself.  If it weren't for the people I've met here online and in person I'd leave because there is nothing else left.

And yes I do agree the sonic is a pile of junk and I have restrained myself from posting a review because I wanted to be nice to Roto by biting my lip, however, being that I owned one and thrown 4 others I am entitled to post a review according to these rules.  And post I will.  I think other unsuspecting users should be warned of its weaknesses.

The only thing that I am going to candy coat is Liz Hurley after she finishes cooking dinner and washing the dishes.  Nothing like warm carmel and hot fudge on something sweet.

I heard that, not that I know, she charges $60 for something and $100 for something else.  And she's also from San Francisco.  Hmmmmmmm, maybe I'll start cruising the Tenderloin.  She's gotta be good if Hugh dumped Liz for her.  LOL
