What is your bowling mind set for this season?
« on: September 21, 2013, 05:17:37 PM »
The last few seasons I've went through a lot of changes either in my physical game, mental game, or physical self.

At the end of last season I finished off the last month of league on the best roll of my life after changing my physical game. I didn't do a lot of bowling this summer for the 1st time ever. I didn't even really think about bowling just went on about my life.

So I did a little warm up practice a month before winter season started up. It was after the 2nd week that I came up with a plan.

That plan is basically not to care about what happens on the lanes or with the other teams. Just go out and bowl the best I can without any other thoughts or anger. I little more indepth about what I mean is this: If I were to go out and hit 5 pocket hits that explode the rack and yet the 10 pin stands every single shot with adjustments. I normally get a little irritated after the 3rd 10 pin in a row, this year all that is gone.

It's the I don't care mentality yet bowling at the very best I can each shot.

So far 3 weeks into the season it is working out great. I also feel a lot less stressful at the end of the night.

I try to enjoy the game. Too many bowlers' self esteem for the week fluctuates with their scores.

Relax and have fun between shots.  When it's your turn you can still focus for a few seconds and roll the ball.  Accepting the outcome (strike or otherwise) is important for your spare game, too.  How many times have we missed the 10-pin because we were "sulking" that it was there in the first place?

An excellent question. I like Lane's response which speaks for me as well. I am trying to enjoy the game and improve over my averages from last year, so I am competing more against myself than anyone else.

Last year, I used 16 pounders almost exclusively. I could handle the weight, but it was a bit uncomfortable. So I spent this summer working out with a 15 pound Freeze that I purchased in 2009 but did not use. The ball seemed to be a good fit for the usual house patterns that we see around here.

In the early going, I am + a couple of pins over last year. With a couple of other tweaks, I am very optimistic for the coming season.

This is my first time back since my stroke about 7 years ago.  Not really sure what to expect but I'm having fun and enjoying the game again.  First week 490 - 2d week 560  3rd week 590.  Still have big timing problems.  Working on slowing my footwork down.  Dropped down to a 14# Freeze.  Was using a 15# 508A ?? and a 15# Burst.  Couldn;t get a good look with either of them.

Right now my goal is simply to have a clean series.  Had one open last week 1st frame of the first game.  Hopefully I can get my average up enough to where I won't feel guilty shooting some handicap tournaments next year.

I asked this to see how other people are managing their season this early into it. I don't have any goals this season. The only goal if I can even call it that is to just keep doing what I have been doing with not caring about what happens.

I ended last season with a 203 average on Wednesday nights. After 3 weeks I'm currently at 202, started out the season at 181. I didn't care if I stayed at 180 or not, I am having fun once again and that's all that matters IMO.

My mindset is balls to the wall and have fun doing it. First couple weeks at one center were rough, but since then, nothing under 640. It's working pretty well.

My mindset, last year's mediocrity is unacceptable.  I'm taking notes on notebook paper, what pins I leave, good shot, bad shot. etc.   I then can look back and see where practice needs to be spent.

Week 1, left 4 10 pins, only covered 2.  Went in and practiced the 10 pin.  Week 2 (last night)  left about 5 or 6 of them, missed 0.

I am aiming for the "throat" this year, but am still going to have fun, and not be "that" guy who pisses everyone off, I hate that guy

This years goal is consistency.  My mindset is even-keel.  Keep out the bad thoughts.  Be analytical, but focus on the current shot.   10-pins and 4 pins should be automatic, but I missed too many of them because I was analyzing what I did wrong to leave them, i.e. speed, direction, ball selection, foot work.  I forgot to line up and properly throw the spare.  Remember that this is a game of ups and downs.  As a wise man once told a king, "This too shall pass".  My goal is to close the average gap between House conditions (226) and sport shot conditions (178).

My mind set is consistency and making my spares, needless to say I have a lot of work to do on both.
