New Lanes
« on: February 16, 2005, 02:38:52 PM »
One of the houses I bowl in is installing new lanes this summer. I believe the name of them is something like Brunswick Pro Advilane Lanes. I have quit throwing 15# balls and now throw 14# balls. I am trying to build a new arsenal. Is there anything about these lanes that might give me an idea of what balls to get? Right now I have a Storm Triple X and a Brunswick Impulse Zone with a Track GP2 on the way, but not drilled yet. The Triple X and Impulse Zone are both 2 1/2" Pin balls and both are drilled with Pin 4" from PAP and under RF with MB in strong position. Any idea what I might expect with these new lanes?

it has a heck of a lot more to do with the oil than it does with the lane surface.  the us open is being bowled on the anvilanes and that shot is not even close to the same as the regular house shot there.  you should see what type of shot they put out after they reopen, and get an idea as to how they are playing.  depending on what was there before, the same exact oil pattern may look completely different on the new surface.  until then, our advice is pretty much meaningless.  all i can tell you is that the anvilanes are the slickest surface in the sport, so if theyre changing from amf or wood to the brunswicks, you may see alot more push down the lane...but like i said, it all depends on the oil.

Thanks for the information Hotwire. That is about what I guessed. Kind of a stupid question on my part to begin with. This house is approx 25+ years old Synthetic the first approx. 20' and Wood the rest of way and has Brunswick Pin Setters and Score Monitors. These lanes haven't been taken care of for years. I have bowled there for approx. 6 years and the lanes have never been resurfaced. The Synthetic is also in bad shape with patches all over the lanes. Everyone's scoring average is around 14-18 pins less in this house compared to other houses.

well then i would expect the averages to jump fairly quickly if the old lanes are in such bad shape.  now i would have to assume a lot more push than before, especially if the same pattern is kept on the new lanes.  either expect to play alot straighter, or think about looking for an aggressive ball.  dont rule out the possibility of seeing a lighter shot on the new surface, but i doubt that will even become an issue based on the maintenance level you described of the old surface...the heavier shot would help maintain the lanes, but it doesnt sound like the manager is up to date on what needs to be done to keep up the center.
