Why do I do this?
« on: March 23, 2005, 03:18:51 AM »
Last night in league right out the box I go 290.(My 1st santioned 11 in a row). Then for the next 2 games I shoot 182, 178.  I like to think of myself as a good adjuster when the lanes change.  But lately, if I get a really good game out 1st I seem to go down in scores for the next 2 games. Does this happen with any of you?  Im curious.  What do you think causes this to happen?

A simple answer is that you fell out of the "zone". It happens to many bowlers. I shot 300, 181, 217 once.

I went 111,214,134 on sport shot last summer.  I had 6 gutters the first game LOL. Can't score from the grey board.  Sorry for the Hi Jack.

Dang! I think the only difference is that my middle game would have equalled the first and third.

It happens to me all the time, most of my best games come in game 1.  My average for game 1 in 2 leagues is consistently 5+ pins higher.  My worst game statistically is game 2.

Mentally I guess being excited about bowling makes me focus for game 1, game 2 I start to sluff off and game 3 I know I need a good finish.  Most of my high series all included a big 2nd game.  This game looks so easy to fix on paper!!

D <~~~~ Used to be terrible wiffing 10 pins.  Now through much practice, can wiff any single pin spare at any time.

Last year in a tourney I go 300,170 something and then 160 something.  It's frustrating, especially when the lanes have'nt changed that much!

I think the reason this happens is that to those of us not accustomed to shooting telephone numbers is that we get so pumped up and with all the adrenaline we lose concentration on the game at hand.  Then you miss a couple shots and instead of rebounding you start thinking too much about why you aren't still killing the shot.

Roto-
I'm a down and in player. I definitely understand what your'e saying though.  I think the thing that applies to me is the comfort state.  I tend to become content with the ONE big game, and then lose my fire.  This has'nt always been, just lately I tend to get lazy on the last 2 games.

Congrats to you for your first 290. I bowled my first 290 too last night as a sub. I bowled a bad first game, but I came back from it. I went 178-290-234= 702 series.

On the first game, I couldn't get lined up then made some big adjustment on speed & entry angle & everything was going the right way. I hope to do it again.

Thanks,
