I haven't heard much chatter about the Derby tournament this year but I wanted to get some opinions about this year's shot before I head down there on Friday. I saw a comment or two back in April about it being a very tight shot and carry is a big issue this year. So has anyone experienced that same thing recently? Any feedback or tips would be very helpful.

It's a medium oil THS.  Not hard to get to the pocket, carry can be difficult at Executive at times...

I'll be there this weekend.

I bowled this past weekend, very high scoring, 4 800s including a house record of 874 & a handful of 300 games. I had 1974 with a sparkling 161 game. I did leave in 14th place in doubles. On to the shot, get the ball right, early. If you can do that, youll be fine. If not, you will ring a ton of 10 pins.

Expect not to carry. The closer to the ditch you play the better you will be.

+1 to northface28. you're either going to have a real good time, or you're going to be frustrated. maybe even a combination of both. went from a modern marvel to a crossroad to an avalanche urethane - expect some friction.

Anyone else going to be down there this weekend?

How did the bracket scores look (if you looked) Northface28?

Pretty high, 220s wont make you any money. Lacaze, Valenta, Farish, & Novak along with others Rambo'd the brackets. Obviously these are touring players and elite college players, so 235+ may have gotten you through a few here and there.

Sounds about right, thats the usual scoring pace and consistant with the last quite a few years.  It will be who can throw that extra strike and carry a 10 here and there and avoid blowing 8-9 pins that sweeps.  Those guys listed below were there last year.  I think one of them just bowls brackets every weekend, "allegedly"...

I suppose i'll pack another medium - weak bag again.   8)

The lanes there normally dry up quickly after the first game, so I'll make sure I take at least 1 strong and 2-3 weaker balls.

Very good idea.

My plan is (all pin up) Plastic, Massive Damage at a used 2000 a-pad, Victory Road polished, Columbia 300 Jazz polished, MoRich MoJave polished.

This is what I plan on taking so I hope this will provide me with some fun:

505T - 1000 grit
GT1 - 2000 grit
QZ2 Backdraft - 3000 grit/polish
RX1 Recon Pearl - 4000 grit/polish

Might also take my 505C (4000 grit/polish) with me as a backup since I haven't used it since late last year.

Again, whatever you take, get it right early. Going up the lane is a no-no.

Bank it off the dry with something clean, but a ball that can still generate some angle on the backend?

Id look at some shiny solids actually, theyll get through the front and not overbounce off the friction.

Sounds like the Derby to me.  I'll make sure to have the Jazz in the bag.
