What should I use for ball cleaner???

I was told by my pro shop owner that all I need is alcohol and that will do the trick.  But someone said that that would kill the reaction of my reactive resin balls.  Is this true?  I have used orange clean, but alcohol is just so cheap.  Let me know what you guys think.

I have used alchahol before, and most of the people that I know use alchahol, never seems to hurt. Although they have pearl or matte so I would be careful on reactive resin.

It will certinaly disinfect your ball.. But it wont clean it, nor hurt it..

I beg to differ. Have you ever bowled at an oily house then cleaned your ball with rubbing alcohol? Just try it and check out what the rag looks like after... it'll be completely black. It seems to pick more up off the ball than most expensive cleaners I've bought.

Get NeoTac's Liquid Nitro !!

Also get their Renew-It (deep cleaner and light polish) and Hook-It (deep cleaner w/ no polish...keeps shiny balls shiny, dull-dull).

Also get a 70%-30% Mirco Fiber towel for your ball, or , an oil free towel for your stuff....that should do the trick for you.

Liquid Nitro after each session....

Either deep cleaner depending on what you want every few weeks.....

However, it all depends on how much you bowl too,....

This argument has already been settled in the coverstock section.. Just plain 70% alcohol isnt gonna get much out..

How many times do we need to talk about this?!? Just spend the $6 or $7 bucks and get a ball cleaner. They are formulated to clean balls. I use Ultimate Black Magic Rejuvenator and its great. Plus its only $5.99.

As for the alcohol, I dont know what you other guys have heard or have been told. But I know that alcohol will clean a coverstock but repeated use over a period of time will also damage the ball. It will dry out the coverstock and ruin it!! Do not use alcohol!! If you want something more economical, buy a bottle of 409 or Simple Green.

that's the dirt held in suspension by all the oil, but alcohol will NEVER clean the oil off the ball.

i think this an interesting conversation, even though it has been discussed several times on this site.  there are alot of home made solutions that are alot less expensive than what you can get in a pro shop.

a couple of months ago, i bought a gallon of CASTROL de-greaser in the auto section of wal-mart.  i've been mixing it with roughly 50% alcohol, and it works really well.  leaves the ball with a semi-tacky feel, and cleans belt marks and oil right off the ball.  so for roughly $8 plus alcohol, i have 2 gallons of solution that i'd pay over $200 for at a pro shop.

just alcohol works well for me, too.  i just think the addition of the de-greaser cleans into the ball's pores better and leaves a better feel.

i haven't tried the simple green stuff or 409 on my ball.  i wanted to try something that was made to break down the oil.  good luck and have fun!

I think any degreaser will work fine. Cutting it with alcohol maybe 25% isn't the worse idea I have ever heard. I have a bottle of Storm pro-active clean and it has a strong alcohol smell. I bought a bottle of simple green but haven't tried it yet. What type of alcohol do you cut it with???? Rubbing alcohol seems like it isn't going to do much, but what about methyl?? I know the local bowling center here doesn't allow the use of alcohol. Thinks it's a fire hazzard. Which it probably is.

tell them jack daniels is a fire hazzard, too!!!  i've heard here that the isopryl is better to use than the methyl, but have no scientific evidence to present.  it was said that methyl is too strong and may damage the ball.  i just use the 70% mixed with degreaser.

This one's my favorite.  Liquid Nitro combined with a micro-fiber towel gets everything off the ball in no time flat.

Neo-Tac also makes bowling balls.  Their Khameleon is a nice ball for squirrely lanes, and the bonus is the coverstock is easy to make changes with.

They're coming out with a particle version as well.
