Why so many boards?
« on: March 27, 2005, 05:18:59 AM »
Watching most of the videos of people on here I have just one question to ask. Do many of you know how to play down and in? It seems like every video is of people covering 20+ boards. Yeah there are times when it is good to do that but what about when that does not work? Do you know how to adjust and play a tighter line? I see this a lot with the younger local bowlers as well. Is it just because today's equipment allows it to be done easier or why do people think they need to cover so many boards?

Uh, what are you talking about???  OH yeah, and I forgot to mention, in that case where I'm swinging plastic a few boards........BOARDS, I'm even just an average tweener with normal revs.  Not even a cranker or anything.

..............No.  You are second only to clayman in terms of ripping up on it.....

But like I said earlier, SD, it comes down to two types of scenarios.  ONe scenario is the stereotypical person wanting to see the ball move a lot.  The other is like mine, where there isn't enough oil to play straighter up without using plastic or something.

Do you bowl on wooden lanes or like, half synthetic, half wood?  I usually play straight up the boards with plastic at this one house with synthetic approaches and heads+midlanes with wooden backends.  I'm an average tweener, and I can play straight up the boards on my Saturday morning THS league  The backends are just.....FLYING!

I fall under the stereotypical person who likes to see the ball move from gutter to gutter to pocket  I LOVE IT!  Purdee ball, swirling colours, very angular, pocket goes BOOM!

Playing deep for me depends on lane transition. Like it league on saturday I was throwing my diesel right up 2nd arrow nice and easy and playing well(not considering the 800 ten pins I left) but by third game I had to move 7 boards to my left and slightly swing it. Not a real big hook but what I'm saying is that this was on a fresh shot in a house that actually knows what oil is. Now practice and my home house that does not know what oil is playing down and in is well, suicide for a slow speed, med revs like myself. I like to think I can do both but could certainly use some work in the consistency department.

I like to swing my balls however, whenever...I...I mean...did I say that outloud?...Sorry.
No, you may not handle my balls. Well....maybe just for a little while.
