Was it the AMF Black Angle?

EDIT: I was curious about the first urethane by any manufacturer, not each manufacturer's first urethane.

(And the AMF Ultra Angle was the first asymmetric cored urethane.

)

If I remember right, yes the Angle was the first.

The AMF Angle was the first three-piece urethane bowling ball. The Faball Hammer was the first two-piece urethane bowling ball.

Faball had the Black Hammer

Can't remember what Ebonite or Columbia 300 had.

I'm not sure on any of these guesses but I think I am fairly certain about the Columbia.

Ebonite - maybe the Gyro not totally sure about that

Columbia - fairly certain it was the wine U-Dot.

If I remember correctly, my pro shop was charging $129 for either the Angle or the Edge. A huge sum for a ball back then.

This was back in 1983.

I agree with Don as well.

The cost around here of the first Hammers (Black) were $100 (around 1986). I never priced a Black Angle.

I thought Ebonite's first was the black Firebolt.

Back in the day, the Hammer plant was right near Baltimore. We used to put our monies together and buy a case of them for what worked out to, $75 a piece! That was a great deal back then.

Actually Hammer had several plants where they balls were made! The serial number had a B for Baltimore, U for Utah, and S for St. Louis which is now the Visionary plant! John Wonders' family still operates the St.Louis area plant as Visionary!! They use the same concept of thick coverstocks in all their product lines with similar core designs in the earlier Visionary balls as Hammer!

Train a child up in the way they should go and when they are old they will do some "Damn Good Bowling", be a "DV8" and not turn from it, besides bowling starts with a Big B!
