Sand Paper safe for partical?

One Long time Pro Shop owner tells me... The sand paper can harm, break down, or smooth partical in coverstock.  Even wet sanding.

Another tells me that its ok.

Both are long time veterans of drilling, but I actually think sand paper will harm the coverstock.  Makes sense to me.

So maybe scotchbrite pads are the safe way to go.

If anyone posseses any genuine knowledge on this subject, please reply.  No speculations please.

Depends on the ball, what type of materiel was used for the particles.  Check with the manufacturer for what they recommend using.

well, what I said to Charlest was based on a long time driller of mine, but another very well respected driller used sand paper on his partical ball...

IMO ... You rub rocks on rocks and one of them is gonna beharder than the other.... problem is whcih one... the coverstock partical, or the sand paper prtical?

So... you see the dilema

What's Harder Than Diamond? Graphite!
Of course, we're not talking pencil lead. The super-hard graphite was formed by focusing an intense x-ray beam onto a small area of graphite, applying pressures on the order 170,000 times the pressure at sea level. The graphite formed from this process was hard enough to crack the diamond anvil upon which it was formed.

Does anybody have a list of Manufacturers and what they recommend?  I guess that would have to be broken down to older and newer for some companies.

I contacted visionary two years ago, and they recommended sandpaper for their particle balls.  I would definately email the mfg.

brunswick uses sandpaper at the present time. when their particle balls first came out they used sandpaper then they went to 3M's trizact pads. at one time several years ago i was told to use, "trizact, sandpaper, or scotch-brite pads---whatever's handy".

Diatomaceous earth is what you were going for I believe.  I use this stuff in the lab some times.

I used sand paper (actually one of the instructors at a BTM clinic did) and it totally killed my Deepth Charge... Go with scotchbrite pads.
