Anyone care to hear something stupid????
« on: November 08, 2006, 07:02:55 AM »
I asked a question last weekend about taking a bowling ball on the plane for my trip to Holland.

Well i took my Regency 300 instead of my Paradigm (cos i don't want anything to happen to my beloved Storm ball!!) & i packed it away in my sports bag in the box, got through no problem. Went to Amsterdam 'Knijn bowling center' on Monday & it was a nice alley. 18 lanes, looked decent, special rate of 18 euros, 50 cents for an hour. Great.

Bowled the first ball, lanes were absolutely soaked in oil. I wished i brought my XXXCEL now!! But there was a problem, the ball never came back. So i threw a house ball down there & it came back. Try again.

Same thing happened again!! I complained to control about it & they had to get my ball from the back of the lane whilst they moved me further down to another lane. Ok.

She returned the Regency to me &, are you ready for this???? These are her exact words "I have spoke to the mechanic & he said you cant use your ball, it is too slippery for it to come back. We have league that play, we don't have any balls like this but they have no problems."

So i used an 11lb house ball, straight at the pins (remember the days?) & i actually got 200+ for 3 games lol. But has anyone heard of this excuse used before? I couldn't believe it.

Is the Regency a rubber ball?  Some houses don't like rubber because it doesn't work well with the ball return equipment.  If they're not pulling your leg and it really is too slippery, I'd say that the problem is that the ball return can't lift it.  They'd have to send it back manually every time.

Its true.  I used to work at a center.  Some of the balls would have so much oil on the cover that the belt wouldn't pick it up.  We used to sit above the machine and tap the belt with rosin.

I just thought it was strange that a machine designed to 'return' bowling balls has trouble returning them. Its not as if they have just been made & are going through teething troubles. How long has bowling been around

Sure it happens to rubber balls and very light bowling balls. When we use to have the junior leagues come into our center and they bowled with 6 and 8 pound bowling balls they would have problems coming back. Seems like it wouldn't make sense right  A Ball return that doesn't return bowling balls HAHA
