what works best for you

after several years of trying all kinds of drilling layouts some label and some real F'd up ones too i came to a realization that for me the simple layouts work the best. for years i've tried to get the most outta my equipment but thinking about the balls that i had the most success with they were all simple layouts. my question is what type of layouts work the best for you; me its a pin out cg near the palm and pin under stacked

I have 3 favorite layout's.

Storm T-Road Pearl
Pin over bridge, CG 1.5" right of center of palm)

Brunswick BVP Rampage
Pin at 1o'clock, CG center of palm

Morich Awesome Finish
Pin in ring finger, Mass Bias just right of thumb hole

I have the list in order of overall potential hook.

It seems to me that any layout with the pin located even with or above the fingers works well for me.  

I don't have enough ball speed to warrent pin down.

pin above ring cg kicked right 3/4-1 w/ x-hole  i have this on 3 different balls (2 solid 1 pearl) and with my low rev ,16-19mph stroker style seems to suit me better than my other layouts.seems to rev up faster but hold energy stronger after breakpoint. i just got my x-mas gift a hammer oynx vibe and my pro shop guy (which has seen me throw some) swore #1 label drill will work great for me .he has drilled all my other stuff except for one.so im kinda nervous bout this ball.wont know until saturday,santa wont let me throw it till after x-mas

Pin above the bridge with the CG straight down and pin below bridge with the CG kicked out at 45° angle.

Those two layouts have been very good for me, not very often do i deviate from those.

I've been so lost this season I don't know anymore.I remember back in the day I used to use a full leverage layout on just about everything and just adjust the covers.over the past 5-7 years I try all different kinds of layouts and everything just becomes more condition specific,thinking of going back to the old school mentality.

A very good layout for me is a pin at 4.5" from PAP, CG or MB stacked - 3-4" pin preferred for a high pin position, and a core RG of at least 2.5" (less is simply too revvy for my style).

I have lower speed and good revs, so length is usually a big issue. This simple layout has proved to work well for me on almost anything but extremes, with a matching ball and surface prep - pretty long with a sharper breakpoint and back end.

Even on an oil ball (a sanded XXcel) this had worked surprisingly well, until the ball cracked...

Best layout for me is pin to the right of the rin finger and cg either stacked or kicked to the right.

Most of the balls I've had were drilled that way and some of the ones I still have are as well.  I've gone to some pin under ring based on driller recommendation...and some have been good!!

I am non-typical.  I like them all for various reasons mainly how I match up.  The more you bowl on easy THS walls the less variable you need in layouts.

Symmetric 5 x 4 pin over or under bridge depending on how much volume i'm on.

I don't have any one or two layouts that work best for me. Thru experimentation, I have and use at least 5 differnt layouts regularly.

1. Pin over bridge and cg in palm is good for distance with my lite oil, dryish lane equipment(slightly offset-not stacked).
2. Pin over bridge and cg kicked right about 1.5"-2" is a good drill for me on most equipment, regardless of cover. But so then is a simple 1:30 shift drill too!
3. Pin under finger with cg kicked right 1"-2" is a drill I love for hvy oil.
4. Rico drillings on all type of coverstocks is good for difficult patterns for me.
5. I love the so-called "Tommy Jones" drilling and have that on alot of my equipment as well.

It would probably be easier for me to say what drillings I do not use than what ones I do.I very rarely use stacked leverage drillings like 4x4, 3x3 etc.
anymore. Nor do I mess with pin axis drillings, since they are too condition specific.

for controllable stuff i like 4x2 which puts the pin under ring CG out.
for length i like 5-5 1/2" pin-PAP which is pin over bridge

I don't really know to be honest.  To be realistic, I would probably be fine laying out just about everything 4 1/2" pin to PAP.  I've had success with 3 1/2", 4 1/2", and 5 1/2".  But obviously I've had my fair share of bad luck with those as well.  I had a Black Widow drilled leverage and that was the wildest ball on the back I've ever had but I had some success with it.  My Twisted Fury was 5 1/2" and that was a good ball with enough dry.  I've had a little more success overall with pins around 4 1/2" probably because I've had more balls around that distance than any other.  The extremes are the only time I might really need other layouts.
