what would be a good ball on breakdown
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:49:30 AM »
I am throwing a ebonite mission for the first two games of league. After two games the ball just starts hooking to early i am looking to pic up a second ball. I have been looking at the new hammer balls the trap, plague, and the hardcore grind. Anybody have any ideas what would be best. Please give me some ideas thanks.

What is BREAKDOWN?
If you throw the ball when the lanes are BROKEN down, they will get PISSED!!!

SORRY, After I thought about it, I figured out you meant CARRYDOWN. I don't use a different TYPE of ball, as much as a different drilling. I start with a pin down AWESOME REVS, then, when it WIGGLES,(DOESN'T DRIVE OR FLIP), I switch to a pin up-WILD THING. The pin under ball gets the ball moving with more midlane, and the pin up delays the hook, for the CARRYDOWN.
This works for ME. There are MUCH better instructors on this forum.
         GOOD LUCK, the don

I'm not to familar with Ebonite/Hammer but something like a Burn or Widow Pearl, with a skid/flippy layout like 5 x 4 and pin above fingers.  This will give you better length and more backend when the lanes start drying up.  Too comment on what don said,  there are two types of oil transition.  The first is carrydown where oil is taken from mainly the midlane and placed on the backends.  Usually a ball with a late midlane read (38-40ft) and stronger backend work good at this point.  The second is oil breakdown where the oil actually starts drying up off the lane.  A weaker ball with a shiny surface is usally required to clear the heads and midlane, and have a flippy backend to increase carry.

If the ball's hooking too early, what happens if you move deeper?

According to some current articles, carrydown does not exist unless plastic/urethane is used. The new super oil vacuums soak up the conditioner which creates a hook/stop reaction due to the lack of oil. Makes sense - move deeper or shell down.
