What would you do......
« on: March 04, 2009, 03:57:07 AM »
You are bowling an individual on lanes 1 and 2 right next to the wall in your local center.  You are giving your opponent 40 pins a game and you have dominated him in every match this year.  You have a difficult time with carry and miss a 10-pin in the 10th for a 208.  Your opponent throws a brooklyn strike in the ninth but still needs the first one in the 10th to beat you.  He throws the first strike and walks it out to the wall and slaps it.

Do you address the fact that he just fouled and you therefore win the match????

How did he foul? Did he cross the line or something?

If he didn't slap the wall beyond the foul line.... no foul.

Nowhere in the rule book does it say that touching the wall is a foul, unless the wall is touched pass the foul line.  I don't know why people think this.

He only fouled if he crossed the line. If he slapped the wall but stayed behind the foul line, he did not foul.

Then yes it is a foul and you should have talked to the league sec about it.

If he slapped the wall beyond the foul line, call him on it.  It is a rule for a reason, and we can either abide by them, or we can put up with the chaos from people choosing only to abide by SOME of the rules.  And... ignorance of the rules is not an excuse.  I am always amazed when veteran bowlers (10+ years) come to me with a rules question, only to discover that most have never attempted to read the rule book.  The rule book is not that long, and the language is easy to read.  C'mon people.... at least make an ATTEMPT at knowing the rules.  You might be surprised by some of the things you discover!

If he was off balance and used the wall to catch himself I would call the foul.

If he did it as a celebration then I would not. No advantage gained.

Besides if I had picked up the 10 pin it would be a moot point.

If it were me, I'd be disappointed in myself for missing a 10 pin and would look down at myself for trying to weasel a victory out.

On the way out of the alley, I might also stop in the bathroom to look in the mirror and make sure I didn't have a Chris Barnes mask on my face!!    Only kidding!!

In the past I wouldn't because I didn't want to the d*ck.. but I have had many bs moves pulled against my teams over the years that cost us games/points/ and championships..
so now I will call anything that is against the rules.. and am always looked at as a d*ck or not into having fun(mainly in handicapped leagues)..
oh well.. rule is a rule

did he throw he shot on lane 1 or lane 2, and did he step over the imaginary line to slap the wall?

I personally wouldn't get too upset, like you said you have beaten him all year, let him have his moment
