What would you do......

You are bowling an individual on lanes 1 and 2 right next to the wall in your local center.  You are giving your opponent 40 pins a game and you have dominated him in every match this year.  You have a difficult time with carry and miss a 10-pin in the 10th for a 208.  Your opponent throws a brooklyn strike in the ninth but still needs the first one in the 10th to beat you.  He throws the first strike and walks it out to the wall and slaps it.  

Do you address the fact that he just fouled and you therefore win the match????

The big question is whether you know for a fact the hand-slap occurred beyond the foul line. If you're just guessing -- if it looked like he was probably beyond the line, but you can't say for 100 percent sure and there were no foul line judges working that night (which happens not very often anymore) -- then you don't have enough evidence to make the call.

I'm picturing this in my head at my home center and trying to figure out how I'd know if someone did it, and I would have to be at least 3-4 lanes over before I had enough angle to know whether the slap crossed the foul plane. And even then, he'd have to make a pretty deliberate attempt to reach beyond the foul line for it to be obvious.

By the strictest letter of the law, yes, it is a foul and COULD be called by you.  Thing is, if the foul becomes a matter of contention, then you have to roll a provisional ball and file the game under a protest as per RULE 10

  I don't think that I would call it, but I know people who would.

Of course I'd call it.  If he knew the rule it was a deliberate violation, if he didn't know the rule it will be a great lesson for him that he should read the rulebook.  --  JohnP

I wouldn't waste my time, especially because no advantage was gained.  I really couldn't care less how someone chooses to act after a strike as long as it doesn't effect anyone around them.  I worry more about my game and my teammates games.
