illegal ball drillings......

they say there is no such thing as a stupid question,so here goes:back in the days of the pancake weight blocks and 1 oz. finger,thumb,positive and negative weights your driller had to use his do-do scale to keep the drillings within the legal weights.now with all of the differrent weight blocks and unlimited drillings a)are the do-do scales still in use and b)is it still possible to drill a ball "illegally" and c)do finger,thumb,positive and negative weights stillcome into play along with the max. 1 oz.?

a) Yes   (although many unprofessional drillers do not use them).
b) Yes  
c) Yes

ABC rules stipulate a ball must be in balance with 1oz on static weights. All current balls have a heavy spot just like the pancake weight block did.

Static weights still do matter. Maybe not as much as before but they are still a piece of the reaction pie.

More to the point, who cares what the side or top weight is, since the dynamic imbalance is so much more important. Excessive imbalances would certainly make for interesting ball reactions.

But since it must be written in stone, the ABC is not likely to change  this in our lifetimes.

Yes, Dodo scales are still used, yes you can still drill a ball illegally..  no static weights do not come into effect...  

Sit and think about it for a seconds..  ***STATIC*** weight..  While the ball is static..  ie) AT REST!!!  NOT MOVING!!!

What the hell difference is -1 to +1 ounce going to make on a 14 - 16 pound bowling ball traveling at 12-20 mph(at the headpin)????

14 pounds is 224 ounces and 16 pounds is equal to 256 ounces.......  just sit back and think about it for a second....  throw out everything you have read and everything you have heard and come up with your own conclusions.....
