Never shot a 300 before. had a 289 once, but no perfect.
Whats it like to nail the big 3-0-0?
I have seen one guy do it in league play and a teammate from my high school bowling team. saw an old dude(must have been in his 60's or 70's) shoot a 298 also.
SO WHATS IT LIKE ON TOP?

Its hard to play with an inferno and not get burned. Last time I threw my inferno, the opposing bowler definitely got burned.

first off, great topic.
I am in your group, having never thrown one myself (290 is my highest) and would also like to know exactly the feeling, particularly what the first one feels like, and does it feel different the more you get? or do they feel the same?
Try not to flame this guy too much though guys, ok?

I have always said that the instant feeling of 300 is different and not necessarily any less than that of shooting 800. After the fact, shooting 800 carries more value. But when you shoot 300, people know it. You know it. You know you have them all. To throw the last shot and strike---its instant perfection bottled. To me it never gets old and Ive got 28 of them. I know the scores are inflated, but for 1 instant you were better than everyone else. That might be the only game all year, but thats your moment.

I don't know personally yet.
But the other day I was at a center and saw something GREAT.
A buddy of mine has a woman on his team. Near the weakest bowler on the complete high level league. Nice stroker style 181 average.
She starts with a 7 bagger in first and my buddy says'...I know she's never done that in this league and maybe never. Then 8....then 9.
She gets up in 10th and flushes it! Then tugs but aggressively flings into pocket in the 11th. The parting the waters strike. Then expectedly a little wide but slows it down to come up from the outside flush. We are expecting ringing 10 but the 6 falls in pit...stands wobbles and touches the 10.
300.
It turns out that it was the first time she had ever had 9 in a row to start a game and she punched it out ....FIRST time!
This week American Bowling magazine pointed out how rare 300s are for women...
1 every 100,000 womans games. For men....1 every 3000 games!
And to do it on the first try for 3....WOW. I was visiting and in Revlefties house.
He can tell you it was exciting.....and the way she so aggressively did it and very coolly was just a blast!!!
Bowling can be such a blast!

Someone other than me finally posted how RARE 300s are for women!!
And I have one!
And it felt GREAT!
The best part about it was that I shot 782 with it.
The other best part about it was that I did it in a Jr Adult league bowling with my son. After I got the first two, he told the team we were bowling against that he knew I was going to do it. The team we were bowling against was a dad and his 2 girls. He thanked me afterwards, and let me know how happy he was that I showed his girls that they could strive for and achieve perfection!
It was really, really cool. And - my league average going into that night was 199, so I got the 100 over watch, too!!
I know people on this site make fun of people who wear their 300 rings. But I wear mine. The year I got my 300, there were just over 1200 shot all YEAR by women. It's a lot more special than the guys rings!

Yes...you might want to save this months American Bowler which came out with these incredible stats ...the excitement in this house for this nice lady was electrifying!!!
Anytime you see a woman do it!!! It is a wonderful accomplishment.
The stats on 800s are in there too!
Congratulations....Mumzie and to all woman. I feel I've shot 30 of them but for some reason some little unexpected ringing 7 pin pops up!

I was extremely nervous for my first sanctioned 300...ball felt heavy and it was in slow motion when I let go of it. The feeling of watching all 10 pins fall was just awesome!! I remember how long it took for my nerves to calm down afterwards...made it worse being the 1st game of the night too.
Honestly, that feeling has never been the same again. I've been really excited about hitting them at tournaments or a tougher house, but the nerves and adrenaline surge hasn't been the same since.

The feeling is great. As the frames go by, you know you have a good shot. Then you are in the tenth frame. The feeling of stepping up in the tenth, throwing three strikes under pressure, with everybody watching and coming through in the clutch is the best feeling in the world. The feeling never gets old. Also if anybody tells you they didn't get nervous, they're not telling you the truth. Everybody gets nervous no matter how many 300's you have. I have gotten nervous on every 300 I have thrown. Other people I know say the same thing.
The first ball of the next game is hard to throw. There is a let down after the 300 and there are a lot of distractions after congratulations, etc.
-
Don't let anyone tell you it gets any easier, either. as far as nerves go, getting up in the tenth knowing what you have to do for a 3 is nerve-racking, no matter how many times you've been faced with the challenge. got my first one when i was 16. i'll be honest, i cried. my dad did too. lol. almost cried when i shot like..150-140 or something after that, but still. one of the greatest feelings in the world. hard to describe though.
tell you what isn't hard to describe, the let down you feel when you ruin a good series after starting with a 3. feels like what i would imagine getting hit by a truck feels like lol.

I rolled my sanctioned 300 in 1995 and was averaging 151 at the time. I bowl in an 80 lane house and the entire house stopped to watch my 10th frame. I flushed the first 2, and tugged the 12th shot for a nice Brooklyn and 300
That was the first time I'd ever thrown more than 6 in a row, and in the 7th frame I knew it was going to happen, though I can't explain why. I'm still the only woman with 300 in that house, too. w00t!
My night was like this: 207-300-154/661 for my first 600 series ever. The feeling of achieving bowling perfection is unbelievable. I believe I was still grinning like an idiot a month later
Like Mumzie, I wear my 300 ring all the time. I'm incredibly proud of my accomplishment (and the 15 minutes of fame that went with it)

It is a terrific feeling, I shot my first one in September. Last summer I shot a 299 and never got past front 8 before. I left a ringing 10 pin and fell to the floor. I was a little nervous cause even though the league was so small at this house it didn't matter.
That was in July and I knew I'd probely never get that far or least would take a long long time to try again but I was wrong. I go back to my normal house for this season and I knew it was going to be harder keeping a 200 average. Despite 2 lucky Brooklyn on a left lane on the third week of bowling, I threw a good shot in the 9th and knew I was dialed in on the other lane. After the second strike, heart pumping but instead of being nervous I was excited and pumped. It was a great shot and all I can say is the feeling you have on the 12th shot watching all 10 pins go down is something that I wasn't totally prepared for cause I fell to the ground and was crazy and let everyone hear it. The cheering, the clapping and my voice. Hugging my gf's dad who I bowled with, shaking hands and everyone coming up to me after that 2nd game congratulating me. It was awesome.
As for the 800 series which is my ultimate goal won't happen anytime soon or may never happen(being realistic), but it is my goal and I have allot of bowling to do in the future!
