I was thinking about the impact of the new Balance and weight hole rules coming in next year, when I had an idea.  I have an old  1976 yellow dot sitting in my garage.  I took it down to my ball driller and we set it up with 2.5 oz of side weight, and no balance hole.  Tried it out  on a broken down paris pattern, and to my surprise the tip and ball reaction was really nice.   The old high rg , 3 piece core was heavily impacted by the side weight,  and gave good continuation down lane considering the weak shell.  It leads me to believe that ball manufacturers will have some new cores coming out that will take advantage of the more lax balance rules to produce balls with a really react strong reaction

People keep saying statics don't matter but I've seen too many cases when you put a hole in the ball to get 1oz side weight that it makes a visible difference.

I can't imagine 3 oz.

In everything but pancake weight blocks, the amount of side weight taken out isn't the thing that is making that drastic of a change. It's the way that you're changing the shape of the weight block that makes a difference.

Pancakes = Statics matter, pin doesn't.
Everything else = Pin matters, statics don't.

Statics matter on pancakes, but it may be a bit broad to say they dont matter on anything else.  There us a laot of technology out there on core construction that could come in to play with the loosend static limits

Can we pleeeeease not discuss this stuff on open forums that Chad might read? Just let him think that 2-handers not having a weight hole will maintain the integrity of the oil patterns. Good grief.  ;)

Use blueprint to see what doesn't happen in ball reaction when you have 2-3 ozs side weight vs 0-1.

We do know if you get close to 5ozs you get bad results. 

There's nothing new in ball reaction that hasn't been seen before. It's great that manufactures are able to make bowlers believe there are creating it.

As mentioned if anything sometimes if anything its the older stuff that can give the better look.  Really starting to fall in love with my Visionary Immortal Pearl which has an enormous diff motor with a significantly weaker shell and its giving me a look none of my other stuff gives me (balls can't even come with that large of diff any more).  Yes maybe should chase the latest tech like most but really do enjoy throwing some of my older pieces in general.

I had my high game with the Immortal Pearl, zero side, zero top, zero finger/thumb.

My highest set, 816 is with a Coca Cola Viz-A-Ball off the lip. Nothing matters except where the friction is. :)
