Title: whats the deal?
Post by: justpar on January 11, 2004, 08:04:41 PM
i am bowling on my first sport league this year....obviously my average is down from a house shot.  what would cause me to not bowl as well though.  i don't seem to hit my mark consistently.  on a regular league i am pretty accurate (far from perfect) but on the sport league i can't seem to do anything.  i can usually find i shot....when i hit what i want to i usually have good results, i just don't hit what i want to nearly as much.

just goes to show you how much easier a house shot is.....keep in mind please I'm not saying I'm a good/better bowler! I've experienced both, and it really shows you how much difference there is......you must repeat shots MUCH more accurately on sport....this you've already figured out

that is eventually the goal...i would love to be able to join the tour sooner or later...or at least make good money bowling, but there is much work to be done.  i understand that on a house shot there is a lot more area.  but my target is only a board wide, i look at an arrow.  if i miss that arrow and crush the pocket and get 10 i am happy about the result but i know i didn't make a great shot.  i am not to worried about results, if i throw good they will take care of them self.  i want wondering why i can hit that one boared consistently on a house shot, but not so consisntently on a tougher shot...i am not to worried about what happens at the pins at this point.
thanks for your imput def.

I think its human nature.
When you dont have to be so accurate you will find you relax more and are therefore more accurate because of it.
When you know you have to hit exactly what you are aiming at tension mounts and you become a little more nervous and accuracy decreases. This leads to steering the ball and not getting the correct release on it.
I will give you the example as in a golf analogy. You stand in the driving range and bomb out dead straight 270 yard drive after 270 yard drive. Now you go out onto the first hole. Tree lined. Most people now tense up and cant hit it straight no matter what.
As you play more on that condition you will begin to trust yourself to make the shot and therefore your accuracy will improve (hopefully)
