PAP is IMHO so importnat because it is the only personal reference point on a ball to judge the layout.
You can ignore it, dill a ball label or whatever, and be happy that it hooks or works, and you might copy a layout from ball to ball. But to know what drilling works there for you, and to make educated guesses how other layouts might work for you if you want an arsenal with complementary reactions and lane utilities, then you better know you basic player "data": PAP, ball speed and RPMs.
This is IMHO no "insider" bullsh!t, rather bowling basics - both for yourself and for any ball driller you might consult.
Knowing a PAP makes many things clearer and easier, but you might also get happy without knowing it - but with it, you might get to know WHY a certain ball reacts the way it does, and how another one might be set up to copy or imoprove the reaction.
