Whats up with the FAKE pictures???
« on: January 12, 2004, 06:46:50 AM »
A couple days ago I brought a ball from bowling.com because it looked like a cool ball (I'm all about looks) and when I got the ball and opened the package it looked NOTHING like the ball in the picture it showed. I have looked at a lot of bowling balls online and I noticed that a lot of sights show FAKE pictures of the balls they show. I can tell some of the pictures are real on certain sights because I can tell it was takin by a camera and the real ones NEVER look as good as the fake pictures. What is with this false advertising because that is what it is? Take for instance the ball Columbia 300's ICON 300 (I can go on forever). When you look at that ball on about 99% of the websights it shows this awsome looking ball that looks like it glows and is full of this neon type purple, it looks so cool but when I saw the real picture on this websight it looked like crap and nothing like the picture it showed on all the other internet websights. I want to buy a cool looking ball on the internet because it's so much creaper but I don't know what to get because all of the pictures are fake. I have a few balls in mind that I would like to get but don't know if they look awsome or look like garbage. I was wondering if someone could help me find a cool or nice looking ball in real life and not some fake picture that looks nice but isn't. I'm looking for a ball up to $130, there has to be some good looking balls in this range!!!

Company images are always computer generated since they design the ball before they actually make the mold to pour it.  People were furious when the original Eraser came out and it looked nothing like the computer generated image on Storm's website.  Their reply was that when mixing such colors in a mold it's nearly impossible to get the same color mold or to make a replica of a computer generated image when using more than one color in the mold.  Shouldn't you be worried more about the reaction more than the color though?

Then shouldn't they take a picture after it was molded so it looks like what your really getting?  ''Shouldn't you be worried more about the reaction more than the color though?''  Well I'm looking for both performance and a good looking ball in one, so both I guess. I'm not a pro or anything so I care a little more about looks than performance though.

LOL, that's a really good answer.  Well if you're buying offline its always a gamble on what you're getting.  If you get into the pro shop and see the balls in person you could always pick from there.  I'm thinking this is the theory that most companies go by since they probaly belive proshop sales outweigh internet sales.

Ya, I was thinking about looking in a pro shop to see what some of them look like but there won't be as many there as on the internet :-(  I have a few balls in mind though so if you guys know what these look like then maybe you can tell me if they look ok or not and also if they are a good ball.  Track-Mutant (looks cool in the pics i've seen + it's suppost to be a good ball), Hammer-Vicious Particle Pearl (looks cool in the fake pics!!!), AMF-Victory SPT (also looks good from what i've seen) and MoRich-The Pioneer (i've seen a real pic of this ball and it looked pretty good).  I'm also wondering which one would you think is the best?

how is it a sham!? How many balls do you think the company makes? If their multicolour, how do expect them to make them all the same?! Even if they took 1 ball out of the WHOLE BUNCH, they would take one that looked good. The colour make up of a bowling ball is like a fingerprint, there arnt 2 the same. Go to a pro shop and find the best looking ball there. If you look at the others they have in the store room, i bet you none of them look as good, you always put the best on display, just to get the vein fools to buy.

good luck and high scoring

No ball has the same scheme because the colours always cure on the ball differently. Not that hard, picturs just give you a general idea of colours. They always take pictures of the bets ones. Get over it.

Okay, okay, so I primarily pick a ball because it's a nice color or it has a cool name (can you say Executioner??)

However, I do try to find something that looks nice AND will perform nicely on the lanes.  And yes, my driller does make fun of me because I won't throw green equipment unless I find a Jade Piranha/C  I just got a NIB Ebonite Tidal Wave Sparkle on Ebay so that's about as close to green as I'll ever get.

Speaking of ball pictures, when the red/blue Messenger from Columbia 300 came out, the picture looked red/blue/purple.  Boy was I disappointed when I saw the ball in the box.  It reacts really nice, and I take it out for a test drive every once in a while.

Back in September I bought my fiancee a ball for her
birthday,so I told her to pick one.She asked for a
Throttle r when I asked why that one she said"It looks
pretty"I told her she should pick a ball for performance
not looks. She stuck to her choice and guess what the
damn ball works really well for her!she now takes great
delight (with tongue firmly in cheek)in saying the best
way to pick a ball is by how pretty it is!!

ITS BECAUSE YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO BUY A BALL BY ITS LOOKS!!! If you ever want to have a good arsenol you have to buy going on performance of the ball, NOT HOW IT LOOKS!

Charlest, not all women care what the ball looks like.  I care what the ball will do on the lanes, if it happens to be "pretty" that's just an added bonus.
