Whats your magic weight???
« on: July 03, 2004, 02:43:04 AM »
I've been bowling for about 4-5 months now and can't really find a weight that I like more than the other. I'm torn between 14 and 15 lb. I started with 14 but moved 15 and I don't have the control on the 15 as I did on the 14. My 15 hits harder for me. I'm 6'1" 240lbs, just curious what people are using. I know it's personal preference or what the person can handle. Just would like a little feedback! FYI, med speed, med revs.

Dave, considering your size and frame I would recommend
on using 15#. I am sure that you have got some strength
in you and I think a #14, in the long run would become
harder to control. I am 5' 7" around 170 and fairly
stocky. When I got back into bowling a few years back
I dropped from a 16# to 15#. Just on a whim I tried a
14# for about 2 weeks and just could not stay consistant
with it. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't buy any more equipment until you've gotten your mechanics down a little better.  4-5 months isn't really that long a time frame.

After your timing smooths out, you will probably want to use 15#.

Me, 120#, 15# equipment.  I've tried 14# but tend to throw it thru the breakpoint.

I'm 5'7'' or so and I weigh around 200 lbs. I throw mainly 16 lb balls. My avg ball speed is 17 to 19 mph. I started with a 16 lb when I was 12 or 13 I forgot when I started... Sometimes 15's just seem to light. But I do have a couple b/c they do seem to hit almsot as hard as my 16's. I think b/c of your size 15 would be better in the long run. I will probaly eventually switch  over to them. Its only a matter of time....

Anorexic?  Hardly.  Just little-boned, kind of like a bowling bird

I'm 5'9", weigh 155, am old (69) and like Luv, small boned and slight. Throw 15 lbs. easily, and have for years. Use a 14 lb. spare ball tho, for slightly more speed.

As big as you are you should easily use 15 lbs. Let the ball do the work, with no muscling. You should swing it, not throw it!
