Someone please make me feel better.
« on: May 25, 2005, 02:55:58 PM »
I average around 210 in a few houses.I am pretty consistant and can throw the big game now and then.I started my 4 game scratch league tonight. The owner tried to put a sportshot out.It wound up being a flat heavy oil shot to 38 feet. The machine then buffed it another 15 feet. There was 1 800 series, four games mind you 831.He is awesome a 23 year old pro bowler. There were 6 people after him that shot over 700.I was one of them.We have 14 teams in the league.Should I be upset that I only shot a 724 series or should I feel good that I tied for 6th high in the league.I have never bowled on a sport shot before, and to make it worse the shot was screwed up.The owner apologized over the loud speaker. He said he would fix it for next week.I feel so low right now.Yes I beat a lot of so called 220-235 bowlers but I still feel I could've shot better. It was wierd I had no room for error. If I missed a board right it was gone, six count. I would hit the 3-6 pocket. If I missed left 1 board I hit the 2-4 pocket wierd huh?Shouldn't I still be able to average the same on this condition?I throw different shots and with wood and synthetic lanes.Has anyone shot on a similar conditon before?Should I consider this a fluke?I had 3 opens all night.I just left a lot of multy pin spares. Thanks for reading my novel..

Sport shots will require a little less effort to the hole with a 53 foot pattern.  With that pattern, straighter is greater.  Grab something that's easy off the hand and point the ball to the pocket.  And, as with any tough shot, make your spares.  Being sixth on this shot takes a fair amount of skill and, seeing that this was your first night, you'll have a pretty decent idea what to expect next week.  Knock 'em dead, snowman!

Sport patterns are supposed to be tougher.  Whether or not it was screwed up, that's about how a real sport pattern is.  Miss a board or two and you might as well forget it.  Keep your head up though, 6th in the league is 6th in the league whether you're shooting 230's or 160's, and that's what's important is keeping on top of the scoring pace.  Like 230-n-up said, go down and in, or at least find a line you can just hit the pocket with and pick up the spares.  That's the way to go on a sport condition, cause most people are still going to try to strike a lot, and that's more damaging than anything.

I believe the owner was apologizing for the 15 foot buff.  That's a LOT of buff area.

I get the most out of bowling when I know I am executing shots, regardless of the outcome.  The only time I get frustrated is when I hammer the hole and leave a single pin every time.  Usually it's because I don't have the perfect ball that will carry.  But alas, I should be happy because I am doing all that I can do with the given circumstances.

Bowling is a personal sport.  It's you against the lanes and against the pins.  When you score high on a THS (and I'm not saying every time), sometimes it's not because you truly excecuted or bowled good.  You get a false sense of accomplishment.

Scores mean nothing.  Be happy when you make good shots, and when you don't, try to learn why you are missing.  Learning is the best part of this sport, so you should be excited that you get to learn again!!!

I know it's easier said than done, but you can achieve this way of thinking, and it will make you so much happier in the long run.  Take it from someone who has been in your shoes before.

Lol, yeah it's a lot of buff.  We've got 14 feet of buff at the house I bowl at.  The pattern is only oiled 23 feet though . .
