slump busters, i need one...any!
« on: March 17, 2009, 12:55:20 PM »
ok our trio team hasnt won a point on 6 weeks. we have lost all 8 six weeks in a row. we went from 2nd place to 8th. there is two weeks left and surprisingly we can get back in the race, it is a tight league. i cant stop pulling the ball, then when i hit the 1-3 i hang a ten. i was averaging 214 and now at 208. i have tried surface adjustments, ball speeds, stepping back, forward, tilting my wrist. i am about to go to the archive and pull out some old stuff. ebonite werewolf(the pink one) or the danger zone that has been plugged 4 times. i need suggestions here, should i try yoga while watching bowling? wipe cottage cheese on my ball or what guys?
lets face it... this isnt deadlifting or picking up women.. its BOWLING!!!! Stop acting tough when you roll 4 strikes in a row!!!

This may work for you:
step one: stop thinking
step two: just roll the ball
step three: when getting tapped, just stay where you are and keep plugging away.

Split,  I would agree with everyne's take.  When the game gets complicated for us (slump periods) go back to the basic fundamentals.  Establish a good step on the approach, comfortable grip on the ball and set it in a good address position, sight the target and take smooth steps and make a smooth delivery and watch your ball at spot at the arrows and watch it react.  If you do everything smoothly you are less likely to incorrectly drift with your feet, pull the ball at release or any other bad habits that can pile up and you dont know what to fix first.  When you get a bad break ring a 10 go a little high and leave a 4, concentrate on making the spare and throwing a good shot the next frame so the bad thoughts dont linger and take root.  Not every good shot is amply rewarded.  Also understadn there ae some nights where you just are not sharp but you still need to get around the game and grind out what you can.  I always say if I can throw one double, make decent shots and convert spares I can throw 200 every time and thats the mindset you need to have.  Understand hey I only need 2 strikes but I need to take care of the spare game as well.  Go back to basics and do things smoothly and adjust from there, let good habit take over and dont think too much about it.  You then try to fix everything and you end up fixing nothing.  Best of luck to you...

It sounds like your whole team is tight, thinking about race for first. The result is that you are all too focused on the little bad breaks. You are all worried about the next bad shot or bad game. You are getting into the mindset where you are overthinking the game.

Don''t.

Just go back to having fun!!! Do something off the wall that is hysterical. Have everyone on the team come in wearing paisley ties and plaid pants. Play for beer/candy/etc. Do something to spice it up and make it more exciting. Bring in a portable CD player and make it Cyndi Lauper night. Anything that is hilarious. You need to do something to lighten the mood somehow, and take your mind off the competition.

My $0.02 worth.
