I have bowled in a true recreational league this year. Tonight was our last night (finally), and I saw something I've never seen before.

A woman started bowling last year, and booked 83. This year she finished with 100. Great improvement - no question. And she really enjoys herself. She has a 1 step approach, and throws the ball lefty

.

She uses one ball for the strike ball (a 10 or 11 pound plastic Maxim), and another ball for her spares (a Vis-A-Ball).

Who in the world sold her those balls? And why?

Wow.

If it matters - hubby averages 123.

When you have to take out a small loan just to put fresh finger inserts i your equipment, you MAY have too many.

Just to get my stuff ready for our summer sport leagues, it is going to take over $100 worth of finger and thumb inserts, not to mention surface adjustments.

Depends 2 balls for some bowlers is too much, I have a 160 average friend that screws himself up with 4-6 balls a night. He hooks the whole lane but never has a clue how to play straighter, his hooking power is crazy but he is one of the worst spare shooters i have ever watched.

If he makes 1-2 10 pins a night it was a good night, I have worked and worked with him how to kill the ball but he even hooks plastic about 10-15 boards. I finally gave up and just watch him flag easy stuff and just dont worry about it, who cares it is a handicap league.

I have at least 230 balls and yes it is insanity at it's finest, it is just too hard too part with stuff that works. OCD has got me by the horns to be nice.

Not that bad, but we got a guy (lefty, 185 Ave.) that brings six, and no spare ball. He plays the same line (down 2nd arrow) all night and will just switch balls when he doesn't carry.

I really drive him nuts because I constantly play across his line and it really screws up his shot.

I bowl regionals when I can and right now, I have 18 balls for different conditions sitting in my storage room. I'll bring one and plastic for league. Its to the point when I open my bag and I can't see the label, I'll say "now what the heck is this ball?" I get alot of them used from Ritchie Allen, his dad runs the bowling alley I work at, so that helps.

4 rivals, a raid, 2 momentums, resurgence, vortex 2, 2 angular ones, 2 wraths, cell, complete nv, bash....it goes on

never! lateral moves only help so much, but a ball change can make a big difference.

example:

tonight, 4 man teams, everyone but me was a down & in player. by end of first, 10-gutter was just about gone. not one guy, including my team changed balls, they just kept going high, brooklyng, too much speed etc. i tried to tell them, but they just told me they would keep moving left. i laughed and changed balls and wheeled it to that dry bumper and shoot 266, 246. shoot 702 with a 190 first game. oh, by the way, i bring 5 balls. and when i saw the line in practice everyone was using, i pulled out my heavy oiler and threw it up the gut to help them out during practice

.....that was nice of me to do that

My 4 ball roller always goes with me, it is my only bag. But i might onlyuse 2 balls but i am ready in case. Sometimes it is only 3 of my balls and one that is my wifes.

I currently have 6 balls and most nights I use 1 ball plus my spare ball I have a 3 ball bag with a Joey. On a few nights I have thrown 2 or 3 balls when I struggled to carry. As long as I am not tripping over someone's equipment I don't care how many balls they have.

two plastic balls....one pretty and one not so pretty for single pins is just right for this person!

For me.....many more when I'm bowling bad. When I'm bowling good just two also.

PS BUT how can one be sure if he is bringing the right strike ball if the oil guy is not sure if he put his oil in his beer...or his beer in the oil machine?

Usually I bring two to league (1 reactive + XXXL)

Last week the centre changed the pattern (now longer and heavier) and I was caught out. Couldn't get my Twisted to read.

I will bring 3 x reactive + XXXL this week and see what pattern the centre is putting down.

I usually bring two strike balls and one spare ball to league as well. Regarding this question, I don't think a bowler can ever have to many bowling balls because the bowler buys the balls themselves in most cases, so if they are putting out the cash and want to buy 2 balls or 20 balls does it really matter?

I HATE bowlers that use a different ball for spares and can't make spares most of the time with it.

People like this is why I stopped bringing spare balls because there is no space for decent bowlers like myself so I learned to make spares with my strike ball. Damn those types of bowlers
