When is it socially acceptable among the bowling elite for someone to have more than one bowling ball?  Let's take a survey.  At what average do you think someone should be at before it is socially acceptable to have more than one bowling ball?

For reference, I refer you to this thread which has gone off topic:
http://www.ballreviews.com/Forum/Replies.asp?CategoryID=2&ForumID=73&TopicID=129998

If we can get some numbers here, we can average them together at the end to get a definitive answer to when it is socially acceptable for people to go out and get different balls for different lane conditions.

Well I say that a 180 average and not just a house bowler. Then to me its acceptable, I know I don't follow my rule but I only have two balls and one was given to me. But I don't see the whole arsenal need unless your a tournament bowler.

My 2 cents worth

Let's pretend for the sake of the argument that you HAD to follow the rule to be socially acceptable among the bowling elite.

To me there is not "set" average for someone to have more than one ball.. I just stated that I have seen 175 average bowlers with a 4 ball roller than are in dire need of coaching more than buying the latest and greatest ball..

But on the other hand, if someone has the funds and wants to buy every new ball and have 10 balls and they are happy with their 175 average, thats great.. Some people also take this great game of bowling more serious than others. I personally feel if I am spending as much money as I do on bolwing, I want to try to have fun AND bowl good. For soem the most important part is how much beer they can drink!! LOL..

I just think someone that learns the basic fundamentals of spare shooting and a positive attitude from a good coach will go farther and inprove thier game faster than someone constantly buying every new ball that comes out..

Now if you are up to the level that you can average 200+ with any ball, then it really doesn't matter how many balls you have..

No, it isn't a problem with me.  I think it's pretty sweet actually.

The question is when do you, the bowling elite, say that it is OK for someone to buy more than one bowling ball and it isn't a stupid newbie mistake?

Well, assuming you know how to hook the ball properly, I'd say stick with one ball until the 160 average range, I know that seems really low, but I think a bowler should have two balls, maybe a third if they are going to use plastic for spares(chances are though their spare game will be weak). I think have the two balls will help a new bowler see the difference in ball reactions, and see lane transitions and such. It just needs to be made sure that having two balls, that adjusting becomes just switching between the two, got to move your feet/target.

Well i dont think you need to have a certain average to buy multiple bowling balls.  I had 3 balls when i had a 175 average.  now im about a 205-210 and have around 6 balls that i use.  my friend has 4 balls and a 175-180 average.  i think if your comfortable with your game, you can have multiple balls.  a lot of it is probably about the knowledge of when to use different balls and what to expect.  once a bowler knows that then its generally acceptable to have a complete arsenal.

what does that mean?  When do you "the bowling elite"..

What are saying? Not sure if you are trying to be serious or not..

I am by no means an expert or "bowling elite" but I do post my thoughts and opinions on here and I'm sure some agree and some don't which is fine..

Hehe, I mean someone who is good enough to tell someone with authority that they shouldn't buy more than one ball.

I've seen this pop up before, so it would be nice to get a nice solid figure to determine when it's OK.

I have to agree with this one. 1st off I think everyone shuld have 2 balls to start. 1 main ball and 1 plastic spare ball. But as far as how many balls is OK to have...Its your money, spend it how you want. Todays game is all about matching up to the condition. Why not increase your chances by having the best matched up ball in your hand. If the lanes are scorched, you will have a hard time scoring with a total shock and awe no matter how good you are.

BUt I also agree with the notion that most people would do better with $200 spend on coaching vs $200 on new equipment. Fact is that you need both. Get good coaching but the right equipment means a lot too.
