So long to the "fluffer" cores ?
« on: February 10, 2005, 05:37:06 AM »
just read that USBC has limited core differentials from 0.080 previously to 0.060 (now)...  so long to the super strong cores of the SCB, BCB, and Cherry Bomb.....  and others (fantasy X, etc.).  Guess they are slowly trying to bring back some necessity of shot-making to the game...

yeah agreed.  Although the limit was set to 0.080 previously, I think the strongest produced was 0.073 maybe... with most strong cores falling in the 0.050- 0.055 range... so probably not a huge difference...  i agree... a limit on surface (somehow.. although I'm not sure how to enforce it) would go a long ways...

The highest differential ball I own is 0.049, and I rarely get to use it.  I don't think this rule will have any affect on the game whatsoever.

Nice!

Whoops - released it too soon. Damn!

Although weak it is still a step which has been taken and at least a small progression in the right direction. Let us all hope it doesn't take forever to get more change. Funny thing though that reading BTM's list of diffs about 60-70% of balls are over .06, most in the .06 range but still above.

That's a percentage of the max allowable, .080, not an absolute amount. I wish they'd give up on those percentage numbers and use the actual numbers. No one else does it. Besides it varies from 16 lbs to 15 lbs to 14 lbs.

When does this go into affect?

What about balls like the Xcel Particle and Real Deal that have over .060 Differential?

Can you still use these balls fro the time being?

And if Ebonite/Hammer knew about this new "limit" of Differential coming into affect... then why did they just recently release these two balls?

All balls made before the deadline of 1 February 05 will be grandfathered in---anything after that has to fall under the new limit.
So the SCB and others ARE still legal to use---whether you buy NIB or used.
