who puts tape on there PAP
« on: July 30, 2003, 08:15:37 PM »
I was wondering how many people put tape on there pap when practicing?

I did this the other day at practice. It is something I have not done with modern balls. back in the late 80's I did once to find my axis for special drilling. what now would be called pin axis. also I place the tape dead on both balls on the first try. how lucky is that.

Well it was very interesting to see where the ball flared and how much.

have you ever thrown a ball that hit the pocket and just knew it was going to leave a ringing ten pin? I spent 3 or 4 games watching two balls and there reactions and how they hit. Once I saw the skid hook and roll, I lined up with the proper ball ball for the lanes and concentrated on the best release and see how much I could score for a series.

had it not been for my ball getting stuck 2 or 3 frames each game( happens every week) I would have easily had a 690- 720 depending on carry. I wound up using  a ball too strong for the lanes and it left ugly stuff. And it happened on a string every time. still I shot around 640. fluffy house shot of coarse. I have been shooting over 600 there in practice since dropping to 14#. this time it was just more consistent on my release.

It certainly confirms many self discoveries about my game. I need a lot of work but I think I need to up my goal for next years avg. I was thinking I could avg 195 or so. I belive a might be able to crack 200.

this is the house I will bowl in this winter. I can't wait to get in the lanes!

I do it all of the time...makes me mad though...bowlers tape used to make some fluorescent pink stuff that was real thin. It never bothered the ball returns or anything. The other stuff seems to get torn of 2-3 times in a set.

oh well....I have also used a piece of white tape and a camcorder to find revs on the ball....pit a piece going from your PAP to your ring finger. video the ball going downlane then watch the video in slow motion. Count the # of revolutions then take a stopwatch and find out how long it takes to get downlane. Then do some math and you'll get RPM's.

The whole tape thing is a wonderful practice tool. you instantly know if you released it wrong....

Doug,

Try those little orange dots from target parctice sheets. you can find them in your local gun shop. very thin, very bright!

I'm thinking I would like to have a practice ball and put a colored plug on my PAP.
