Too much "hockey stick: reaction
« on: November 08, 2013, 01:43:02 PM »
I'm looking for a "smooth" reacting ball that will  still carry well on "top hat" oil. I'm sure someone out there will have some good suggestions.
Thank You

What are you currently throwing? Hard to give suggestions without info.

If I had to name some popular balls that I know are smooth:
Brunswick:
Melee, Meanstreak Brawler and Beatdown,
DV8:
Dude, Diva, Maurauder Madness, All the Nightmares,
Storm:
!Q Tour Solid, Marvel-S, Reign Of Power
Rotogrip:
Berserk, Disturbed, Deranged, Rumble

You have it. The revolver is very strong and smooth with its 4000 siair finish.  Ball corners perfectly and  has great carry. I use it  on all but the burn. Drill it up and be amazed. Im on my second one and still loving it.

Thank You for the advice about the Revolver. I'll put in my bag for league night and see how it works out.

My crossroad (especially with the shine knocked off) is my smoothest reacting ball by far...
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

Strike King,

Have you tried a Srike King from Brunswick with a weak drill and a little shine knocked off.

Always rounded for me 5 1/4 pin to pap and hard hitting

Regards,

I have a Strike King drilled weak and 4000 surface with no polish, it still has plenty of punch. Playing 25 or 30 on the lanes there is no quit in this ball. I do not have a lot of hand.

Try lower drill angles too.  Something in the 30 degree range will smooth out the reaction well for you.  Ive had excellent success with a Diva on a lot of fresh sport patterns with a 30x5x70 layout at 2000 abralon.

Hmmm,

My strike king is 5 1/4 by 5 1/4 and is quite rounded with a good punch box surface.

I am rev dominant with some of the sharpest backends seen by most people, but not by this ball.  I feel a 4 inch pin to pap for me on this ball would be a right turn!

The Sync is a very smooth rolling ball as well, but can handle the puddle in the middle.

IQ solid is one of the smoothest balls out.  Also, for me most balls will smooth out a bit if I use an axis hole, especially if combined with a pin down layout.

Good point on end over end roll.  Too much axis rotation makes for an abrupt move off the end of the oil, or hitting the outside dry boards.  Different layouts or surface preps don't do much to minimize it.  If you watch the pros who are doing the best these days, they have all cut their axis rotation down a lot, even if they are still high rev players.
