Pros and their spares
« on: January 12, 2005, 02:46:14 AM »
You watch most of the pros and they can hold their finish on most of the strike balls all day long; however, when they roll their spare balls, particularly their single pin spares, they're all out of balance and popping up at the line.  Why is that?  Are they just throwing that hard at them that they can't stay balanced?  Seems a little risky to me...I wouldn't think they'd have to throw any harder, particularly if they're using plastic as most seem to be doing.

Duke doesn't change his approach or throw it harder, but he definitely changes his release. He throws his strike ball end over end, rather than switch to plastic.

I couldn't believe my eyes when Duke missed that 7 pin in the match against Voss, and then a couple of frames later, Voss flagged an 8 pin. Very unusual to see these guys miss single pin spares...

Pros can get away with tossing spare balls differently than they do their strike ball since they bowl so many games a week. For the average house bowler, he would be better off to try to deliver every ball the same way in order to retain consistency.
