When/How do you know if your ready?
« on: April 12, 2005, 04:02:58 AM »
The PBA Regional is making a stop in my area in a couple weeks and I have been throwing around the thought of participating.  So my question to those who have bowled in them, How do I know if I'm ready?  $250 is a lot to throw down to fall flat on my face, but at the same time, i want to know where my game stands compared to the big dogs.

I currently bowl twice a week at the same house on a THS.  I avg 225 and 231 but out of the 5 centers in my town, this house has the reputation as being the toughest.  So is there anyone out there that has been in my situation before?

You really don’t know until you test the waters.

If the $250 doesn’t present some financial hardship then I would do it.

You maybe pleasantly surprised or you may be shocked. But either way it will be a learning experience.

Its like being in love nobody can tell you your in love you just know it.  Nobody can tell you your ready for a regional you know your game better than anyone else.  If you can afford it without you or your kids missing any meals do it or find a willing backer to finance you.  If a local buddy is willing to put money on you thats a clue that they think your good enough.

You dont know if you are ready. You have to swallow your pride and shoe up. I would argue you cant be ready because you dont see the pattern and you dont bowl on the pattern the way the PRO's will break it down. You probally dont have the right layouts and shells in your equipement. But thats why there is the regional events. So that local bowlers can try and learn. You have to expect that it will be a learning experience and if you do well, your a step up.

here is a thought, ask rev-o-lutions, 248 average in his league house, shoed it up in a pba stop on pattern "e"asy and only averaged 190ish, he probably could give you loads of worldly advice.  Average doens't mean squat, the only way you find out if you are good enough is to shoe it up with these guys and go head to head.
So Rev's what do you think any advice for this youngster?
