Wher are YOU in the lineup?
« on: May 22, 2003, 05:02:02 AM »
Since this board is frequented by mostly serious bowlers, who are students of the game, it would be interesting to hear where in the lineups of your various teams we each are and why. Are you first because you can be depended upon to always have a decent steady game? Are you buried in the middle because you need the support from your team-mates both ahead of and behind? Or do you bowl last cause you are most likely to punch out when it is needed, regardless of your teams averages? As bad as I am, I do bowl last on my teams as I often get a lot of my pins in the last two frames.

Tell us which position you bowl in!

I bowl leadoff.  Two reasons - to get off to a good start and to be first out of the bowling alley when were done.

On my tournament teams I generally bowl fourth.  I seem to be a good "set-up" man, which is especially useful in Baker formats.

The lineup system listed by Berreez is just about what I usually see as being considered the best system, except that usually I see the weakest bowler being put in the third spot--I guess to bury the weakness in the middle of the order so that the first two can mark and get things off to a good start and the last two can slam the door.

I bowl lead-off on my main team, which I think is my best position and I take it because I'm the captain and I set the lineup.  I anchor the other team not so much because I'm the right type of bowler to anchor, but because the roster being what it is, I'm the only logical choice for the job.

I have bowled every position for at least a year.
1st spot really was not for me, I get going to fast.
2nd spot was an okay fit it got me to slow down a little and took the pressure off when games were on the line but that just aint me I need pressure when ever I get the chance
3rd same as the 2nd spot
4th was a good fit keep me nice and slow but still just doesn't fit for me.
5th fits well there is pressure everyonce in a blue moon when I need to make a shot. I feel like I can set the pace.

Berreez line-up concept is just a little off from what my team does on my Thursday night league.  Our #2 bowler is fairly consistent and trys to keep our #3 (our weekest) bowler up.  My best friend is lead-off and always has been for whatever team he has been on.  I'm the anchor on that team, but to be honest I don't care where in the line-up I am...but get put last usually due to my average.

Unless you are using the PETERSON (sp) method of scoring I don't think it matters where you place the bowlers. I bowl 4 leagues and in three of them I'm final bowler. Don't think there were more then 2 incidents in the last two years where it was up to ME to finish good in order to win! Most games are won/lost before the last bowler gets up to bowl!

I suck no matter where I'm at in the line-up. lol. I was the anchor bowler to start league last night. After my final game of 134, however, they may want to reconsider that. Then again, the only other guy they would put there fired 147, so maybe we wouldn't be that much better off! Man, I blow.

Our team uses a line-up based on your previous weeks performance. I prefer not to be anchor, if you need a spare to win I am not you guy. If you need 3 strikes to win, the odds are better.

I go last, cos I'm the closer, I'm Mariano Rivera! At least in my mind!

And I use Storm Baseball as my spare ball as well!

I bowl in a 4-men team, Mr reliable goes first, the 2 less experienced bowlers in the middle, and I go last.

Mind you, I was once told by a very wise man that the strike you get in the 4th frame is just as important as the ones in the ninth and tenth.  How true.

In the men's league on Thursday I bowl 4th because I'm the new guy on the team and the team captain is the anchor.

Friday mixed I am the anchor because I am the most dependable and highest average.

Last year I bowled anchor in league, and anchor on my college team.  This year, I joined a new league team where I'm not the best bowler so I'm sure I'll be in the middle somewhere.

I bowl almost exclusively in match play leagues.  I get the other side's best bowler.  Wherever he or she may be.
